The Experience
Truly impressive! A fabulous, family-owned mediaeval castle. Charming Pilar runs it, with her considerable team. She’s passionate about the place – and wine – and speaks good English. It’s simply massive: seven living rooms full of family furniture, paintings and ornament, a magnificent central courtyard, a mysterious library, an upstairs corridor surrounding an indoor patio, once-secret passageways, a tower with wraparound views, and 41 stone-walled bedrooms… You might not even notice a wedding party! With such a choice of rooms do discuss your taste and budget – and maybe splash out on one with champagne and strawberries, a terrace or tower (the least expensive are not so light). All are a clever mix of ancient and modern with king-size beds, minibars and room service; most have showers, fewer have baths. Breakfast in the 15th-century stables; dine on Castilian-inspired dishes. There are vines, a maze, a pine forest, a lagoon, a tended garden and a saltwater swimming pool in the moat. A great area for wildlife and walking, close to the Salamanca to Zamora motorway but perfectly secluded, majestic, memorable.

Local points of interest from Pilar Fernández de Trocóniz Tapia
- There are many activities to do at our Inn: the swimming pool, badminton, we make special picnic baskets, or a guided visit to the castle, the vineyard and a wine tasting! During the winter, drinking a glass of wine beside the XV century hearth is a must!
- The Castle has belonged to my family since 1958 and we opened the Inn in 2003. It is a family-owned business. Our life is dedicated to maintaining the building in perfect condition and to make our guests very happy!
- We are in the middle of the countryside, in a peaceful area where the sound of birds is the only thing you will hear.
- We are very close to Salamanca and Zamora, which are two of the most beautiful cities in Castilla. It is a two hour drive form Madrid. There are also little towns you can visit like Toro, Ledesma, Ciudad Rodrigo, La Alberca, Los Arribes...
- There are many activities to do in the surroundings: visit a winery, a cheese farm, an iberian ham factory... For groups, you can also hire a flamenco dancing performance or a hot air ballon trip.
- We have all the ingredients to make a unique experience.

Frankly quite wonderful. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and this is the most memorable. I will be back. If you're in the area I highly recommend a couple of nights. Hope you enjoy as much as we did.
