The Experience

Arrive along a two-kilometre dirt track to a gloriously wild hotel, bursting with colour, greenery and birdsong. Snuggle up around big open fires, read a good book in the library, lounge in hammocks in the garden or under cover in the courtyard – there’s a wonderfully warm feel. Rooms are wacky – bare concrete walls covered with paintings and furnishings from all over the world; the beams are from monasteries and old wood doors from Madrid houses.

Breakfast, brought to the long friendly table, is worth rising for: freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, eggs from the chickens with local cheeses and hams. The homemade cake is excellent too.

There’s plenty of wildlife to spot on the estate: head off deer stalking or settle into the hide to spot nesting storks. Gaze out on the foothills of the sierra (2 of the rooms have terraces); the hiking and cycling are excellent and you can reach the top in about an hour and a half on foot.

It is definitely special! With the sun streaming in from the high Sierra Gaudarrama over the distant 12th Century church to this oasis of calm and charm and birdsong, where could be nicer? Cristina's attention to detail is flawless, from the internal courtyard bursting with colour to the fascinating little pepper and salt pots from Morocco ..... we loved it.

Superb Finca near Segovia. We stayed a week, in a group of 10 friends. Lovely bedroom with two terraces, huge bed, wonderful bathroom, hammocks in the garden, masses of quiet spaces and comfortable chairs everywhere. Cristina and Alejandro are totally delightful and can't do enough to make the stay most enjoyable. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful but they are so happy to suggest places to visit, lovely churches and villages, scenic drives; and a tour of the estate is a must! Good restaurants in the little village and a superb early Romanesque church. What more to ask! We'll be back asap.

A very beautiful place. Luxuriously furnished with comfortable places to sit and admire the scenery. Cristina and Alejandro cannot do too much for you. We were part of a party of 10 and the place comes alive with a group of friends. Whether you are recharging your batteries or wanting a base for exploring the area, look no further!

The neighbourhood

The hotel is set in hectares of grounds; the nearest village is Sotosalbos (15 minutes’ walk) - a tiny village with two restaurants and one bar and a beautiful church. Head 30 minutes to historic Segovia for a castle, cathedral and aqueduct. Madrid is only an hour away.

Cristina Gómez López

Cristina and Alejandro spent four years building their dream place when they moved over in 2007 from Sao Paolo; now they live here with daughter Cristina, a couple of horses, a donkey and a happy dog. They’re both friendly, welcoming and lively – ask them for maps and advice on the area.
