The Experience
The Rías Altas stretch along Galicia’s virgin coastline, teeming with wide rivers, beaches and cliffs where migrating birds swoop and few tourists stray. They say it’s so peaceful here that even chestnuts fall asleep – hence the hotel’s name… yet the sea and mountains hold hiking, surfing, kayaking, horse riding, and some of Spain’s best seafood. The hotel is in a former village school, restored to life by artistic Mónica and Alex. A tall, rustic frame softens the chic minimalism of pristine white interiors, splashed with bright red window frames, a grass-green cushion here, a vase of splayed branches there. Floods of light illuminate spacious bedrooms combining wood, golden stone and glass. When night falls, quirky lamps of spiky conkers glow in the sitting room and you can browse books on art and photography – Mónica’s passion. Head out to plenty of good restaurants nearby to sample the local specialities – enjoy a glass of Galician wine on the terrace as the sun sinks over the chestnuts first.

We enjoyed an absolutely splendid 6 nights here as a family of three and I'm sure we will be returning to this total gem. Monica is such a warm and effortlessly brilliant host. The rooms are beautiful, very comfortable and free of clutter, which makes the whole experience so relaxing. We stayed in one of the big loft rooms and our daughter had a very pretty standard double room on a lower floor. Breakfasts here are the best in Galicia, as each day features a different local pastry. Monica will direct you to all the best beaches and restaurants and even arrange a stunning boat trip. Brava!

- Explore the northern coastline of Galicia! You will find amazing panoramics views across cliffs, bays, beaches and estuaries... in an uspoilt natural beauty between the two capes : Cabo Ortegal and Estaca de Bares
- Looking for adventure?Go sailing around "los Aguillones" in Cape Ortegal . 500 millions years old stones will be there waiting for you!
- San Andrés de Teixido, a small santuary, part of the pilgrims way to Santiago de Compostela: " If you don,t go when you are alive you will when are dead" .
- Santiago de Compostela is only 1 hour and 40 minutes away. It,s an interesting and charming walk through the history you shouldn,t miss ! Every little corner of this wonderful town is just awesome.
- Playa de las Catedrales , (80 minutes away). It was chosen as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! Its natural arch rock formationsand caves have been carved by erosion over many years.
- The most important thing for me is the chance to have a slow trip , enjoying the fresnesh of local seafood and wines, local hospitality , stopping to admire wild nature .Recharge your batteries in Galicia!!

In a rural location close to the coast. Monica and Alex are keen to make your stay comfortable and to tell you about the area and local places of interest. There is a bar, which serves pizza from 7pm, within easy walking distance - though most guests simply enjoyed sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine at the hotel until later. A good base from which to explore the area - and a hearty breakfast that sets you up for the day.
