Lisbon is worth celebrating for the custard tarts alone. You won’t be short of opportunities to try them but don’t miss Fabrica da Nata or Manteigaria.


Lisbon is known for its steep terrain so either brace yourself for the climbs or take the tram to some of these panoramic viewpoints. If, like me, you’ll eat one too many custard tarts, then it’s a good opportunity to walk them off!

Time Out Market

All of Lisbon’s greatest food on offer under the one roof! Make it there before 2pm to enjoy the original farmer and fish market, Mercado da Ribeira.


Put your map away and get lost wandering the narrow, pretty streets of Alfama. It is the oldest district of Lisbon with so many colourful and beautiful buildings to admire. You’ll find plenty of little cafes and restaurants to refuel at along the way.

Elevador da Bica

Ride the iconic yellow tram to the top of the hill and get a glimpse of neighbourhood life through the graffitied streets in between. Very popular with tourists but a fun, quick experience to scratch off the list!

LX Factory

Hang with the creative locals at this industrial converted factory that now houses an eclectic mix of cafes, restaurants and shops. A slice of chocolate cake from Landeau is a must, along with a drink on the rooftop bar Rio Maravilha.


An old palace transformed into a retail space, now home to independent shops and a couple of cafes. Marvel at the staircase, pick up souvenirs from Stock The Nature and cool down with a gin and tonic at Gin Lovers.
