The Experience

Charles II may have stayed, and his bedroom has changed little… Off a busy street yet an ancient dream of a manor house, David’s home is a dramatic trove of antiques, art, rich colour, grand piano, rose carvings, gorgeous bedrooms – be swept along by his enthusiasm and generosity, marvel at the attention to detail. Breakfast is served in the magnificent Tudor dining room at one long table: continental with compotes and yogurt, home-baking, tea in heirloom china. A pretty garden, guided local tours… hop on a train from St Pancras and arrive in time for drinks.

A wonderfull, very classy old house, very tastefull adapted for modern comfort. A house with a soul, alive and “cracking”, with a very friendly and interesting host. A beautiful room, a very Sawdays - worthy stay! Thank you!

Adrian, Banstead

Fascinating house with so much history and collection of artefacts from around the world. David is an excellent host, very personable, we felt well looked after. Delicious breakfasts. Highly recommended.

David, London

Wonderful stay - historic Manor, very comfortable rooms, tip top breakfast and all managed by the finest of hosts, thank you to David. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to see you again & learn more of the history of Harlington Manor.

Penny, Surrey

We chose Harlington Manor for a two night stay so we could attend 'The Flying Proms' event at the Shuttleworth Museum nearby. The house oozes character and atmosphere and our friendly host, David, enjoyed sharing stories of its fascinating history whilst we tucked into delicious freshly cooked breakfasts in the Great Parlour. We stayed in the Garden Room, with wisteria trailing over the windows, wonderful wonky floorboards, high ceilings and oak beams and a very large and comfortable four poster bed. It was so different from any B&B we're stayed in before and definitely one to come back to!

Bryher, Truro

Staying in Harlington Manor was like finding treasure. Arriving after a long journey to beautiful gardens and grand, antique interiors intermingled with personal modern touches made us smile. David gave us a huge, warm welcome and we felt at home instantly. The sumptuous bed was super comfy, the beautiful room was peaceful and the breakfast was delicious. We highly recommend and can't wait to return. Thank you David for being a wonderful host and making our stay special.

Local points of interest from David Blakeman

  • The house dates from the late 14th century, though it has Tudor, Jacobean, Georgian, Victorian and 1930's extensions and alterations! The Great and Little Parlours have magnificent Jacobean panelling.
  • John Bunyan was interrogated and briefly imprisoned here, in 1660, by the then owner, Sir Francis Wingate. Charles II is said to have stayed in the King Charles Bedroom shortly afterwards. There is a long established tale of a ghost!
  • We're only 5 minutes walk from Harlington mainline station. Trains go very frequently (15 minutes at peak), stopping at St Pancras International (and on to the Continent), Farringdon and Blackfriars (for Tate Modern and the Globe.
  • The house is only 6 miles from Woburn Abbey, golf course and safari park. Bicester Village is 38 miles away, Cambridge just 1 hour's drive. Milton Keynes (with its snowdome, theatre and shopping) is just 20 minutes drive away.
  • The house abuts an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty-which extends all the way to Hitchin, 9 miles away. The National Trust have extensive local landholdings-including the Sundon Hills Country Park, an easy walk away and the Barton Hills National Reserve.
  • Harlington was the venue for the World's first steeplechase-which ran from the Carpenter's Arms, one of two local pubs. It has numerous half timbered buildings and a 13th century church.
