The Experience

Cornwall at its most quintessential: tucked into a cove on the bank of the river Helford, just a kayak’s paddle away from Gillan and Frenchman’s Creek. The Boathouse is the nearest thing to a boat without actually being on the sea – but with the waves lapping at the deck you won’t have far to go to dip a toe in Cornish waters.

Bring your own craft and use the private slipway, or walk to neighbouring village St Antony at low tide and hire – they’ll deliver direct to the beach. You’ll mostly be outside, messing about with fishing nets, rockpooling and leaping in and out of boats (the drying room for wetsuits comes in handy).

The house is perfect for big family gatherings: a pot big enough for lobsters, a huge games room, two dishwashers for efficient clean up after dinner. But smaller groups will feel right at home taking just one floor. Outside it’s real Swallows and Amazons stuff, but inside there’s a log burner and superfast WiFi.

Reviews

I loved The Boathouse on Flushing Cove with its little beach and views out to sea providing the setting for a perfect holiday. The beautifully furnished and equipped family home can equally suit those wanting a cosy couples escape or a large group of 14 and anything in between.Walkers, sailors, wildlife watchers and escapists can just relax and while away the hours here... sublime!

Zoe, London

Just returned from a fabulous week in the Boathouse with family/ friends. What a great place to stay. Directly on the waters edge with great views out over the bay we had so much to see & do just outside the front door. We followed the coastal paths in both directions, walked out around the headlands at low tide & walked across to the other side of the creek without getting our feet wet. Lots of places within easy distance - Lands End, Lizard, Minack Theatre. Accommodation was great - very well equipped kitchen, comfy lounge with wood burner and very comfortable bedrooms. Highly recommended.

Paulette

We had a fab time thank you. You have a beautiful home and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Only complaint that it wasn’t long enough. Leonie and Neil cooked us an amazing meal on Saturday and we all dressed up appropriately. Thanks for the recommendation. Thanks once again for sharing your house with us.

Location

The neighbourhood

Coastal walks start from the beach and run along the banks on either side of the house. Famously accommodating local café Fat Apples is down the footpath in Saint Keverne, which has a butcher, baker and a handful of sweet little shops and pubs set around a pretty square. The villages of Helford and Manaccan have more restaurants, including much-lauded South Café.

Local points of interest from Suzy Goulding

  • Boat hire (sailing, motor, kayak) and moorings from St Anthony. Hired boats can be delivered to the beach or you can walk over at low tide.
  • 2 Tennis courts available for hire in Manaccan (5 mins by car).
  • The house is on the coastal path so there are fabulous walks from the doorstep.
  • Tate Modern. National Maritime Musuem, Seal Sanctuary, Flambards are all within an hours drive as are a number of stunning gardens including Trebah.
  • 2 High Chairs and 2 Cots provided upon request.
  • Owner provides a list of tried and tested recommendations of pubs, restaurants, places to visit and things to do in the immediate area when you book.
