The Experience

Country lovers will feel at home at this just-renovated barn, on a working farm in walking country – as will families with young children. The two storeys where farmer and sheep were housed and hay and wool kept dry, have become a large, light and airy open-plan space, with soft white walls and new oak floors. Bedrooms and bathrooms are downstairs, off a limestone floor’d hall; the living area is under the vaulted ceiling above. There are velux windows in the roof, as well as large deep-silled ones, and views on every side of hills sprinkled with sheep. There’s a wood-burner in the chimney breast, the furniture is solid and new, the kitchen gleams with black granite and steel, the bedrooms have fresh flowers and top quality everything, and the bathrooms, smartly tiled from floor to ceiling, have soaps and shampoo from the Sedbergh Soap Company. Logs and a generous welcome pack of award-winning local produce are on the house, and Rachel, who loves to meet and greet, is full of plans for courses, from cookery to dry stone walling. The garden has oak furniture, wood-fired hot tub, a fire pit and BBQ – at the end you’ll find a rope swing.

Fabulous! Friendly kind owners who despite running a busy farm happy to chat and give local knowledge always with a smile. We were provided with a super luxury hamper of local products. Beautifully appointed accommodation, views magnificent whatever the weather. Lovely walks direct from the door and a great base to explore further afield.

This is a lovey converted barn. We really enjoyed our stay. It is well equipped and very comfortable and warm. It was a treat to be able to view the working farm from the property. We have a small baby and there were some local pushchair friendly disused railway walks nearby. We hope to return one day during lambing season when our daughter is older.

What a fabulous place to stay! The cottage is lovely. We loved the views of sheep from the window, scrumptious welcome pack on arrival, luxurious rooms and ensuites and spectacular walks on the doorstep. The Fat Lamb pub nearby is a must and Brysons in Kirkby Stephen do great bacon butties ahead of a ride on the train to Settle.

We could not speak highly enough of Stay Lambing Live: Rachel and Andrew could not have been warmer or more welcoming hosts. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The location is stunning and totally unspoilt with beautiful walking around the cottage. Very child friendly - our six month old baby had a wonderful time and our friends' three year old adored being shown the farm by Andrew. We had several delicious meals in local pubs and loved pottering around the nearby towns. The ten days were the highlight of our summer - thank you, Rachel and Andrew.
