The Experience

Inside is open plan, neat-as-a-pin and cosy with a wood-burner – you’re facing away from the owners’ house so the feel is very private. Art by local artists on the walls, a rug on a herring-bone wooden floor and comfy seating by the telly mean rainy days can be spent happily – you’ll find books to read and games to play too. The sleek kitchen is to the side and Jo leaves a welcome hamper with a cream tea, wine, local bread, crisps, chocolates, sometimes eggs, always fresh flowers.

Both bedrooms have duck down duvets and pillows, thickly-lined linen curtains and plenty of hanging space – the double has three windows with green views for admiring while sipping a morning cup of tea. On sunny days you’ll be eating out on the patio (there’s a fire pit for cooking) or sunning yourselves on the big lawn with a glass of chilled wine nearby.

There are 15 acres of woodland and meadow to explore or pretty walks along the river.

Reviews

A very pretty little hideaway for two and an older child or extra friend. On warmer days you'll appreciate the big garden and lots of birds twittering away - light the firepit and you can cook out here, facing a meadow full of primroses in spring. When it's cooler get the wood-burner going, choose a book or a film and settle in.

Location

The neighbourhood

The nearest village is Buckland Brewer, 1.5 miles, for a small shop. Parkham, a bit further has a good butcher and it's 3.5 miles to Bideford for everything else. The Tarka Trail is 3 miles for walking, cycling or running. It's 2 miles to the car park for Peppercombe Beach, then a one mile walk down to it through a wooded valley. Hartland Quay for a pub and the Abbey with gardens are close.

  • The stunning countryside of North Devon is peppered with little lanes and footpaths to explore. Flora and fauna are in abundance and its not hard to get off the beaten track and enjoy total tranquility. You may see kingfishers and herons in our stream.
  • The famous fishing village of Clovelly with its cobbled street and pretty harbour is just 5 miles away. Enjoy a cream tea cor a glass of wine or a beer at the Red Lion before you attempt the climb back up (There is a land rover service if required!)

  • The Tarka Trail is a 180 mile figure of 8 walking and cycling trail following the route travelled by Tarka the Otter inthe novel by Henry Williamson. Its stunning route takes you through ancient villages, wooded valleys, moorland, riverbanks and cliff tops

Introducing

Joanne Wade

Jo and Mike look after you impeccably and if you're staying at the B&B, will serve a really good breakfast. They encourage the local birdlife and have several species of bat for you to watch as dusk falls. They also have a lovely garden and you'll find rhododendrons and azaleas blazing away in spring.
