South Hooe Count House

I was in need of a week of relaxation with my dogs and the Count House did not disappoint! What an absolute gem of a place; the cottage was beautiful, just like a home from home and there were wonderful walks right on the doorstep. The evenings we spent relaxing in front of the fire or sat on the window seat with a book overlooking that stunning view were absolutely idyllic. The Count House is good for the soul and I can't wait to return! Thank you Trish!

We arrived late at night and on arrival we thought we were at the wrong place, it seemed so big for just 2. As we opened the door, the experience got better and better. Trish had made a fire for us, the rayburn was on and it was deliciously cosy. The bed was so comfortable, the pillows gorgeous and so our first night was perfect. The next day we awoke to the most superb views straight from the bedroom over the Tamar and onto the hills across the water, not a person or house in sight. The place is lovely, not at all cramped like some places for 2 are. Highly recommended.

I am currently sitting in the idyllic cottage looking out at the water and feeling very blessed that we found this tranquil spot. Trish is so welcoming and the cottage is a home from home for our week stay. Our little puppy (6 months old) is having the best time investigating the gardens under the watchful eye of Trish's beautiful collie. I would recommend this place highly, for the walks, the peace, the warm welcome and the views. We have had many great walks on the moor followed by some great pub grub. The perfect holiday!

I felt as if I'd stumbled across this idyllic spot by some magic twist of fate. I stayed as a B&B guest in the main house, as the self catering cottage was full. Gorgeous views of the river and surrounding woodlands. Expanses of all calm water seen from every window. Peaceful quiet broken only by the birds calling or the braying donkeys or Rags the lovely sheepdog saying hello. As an oasis of calm with wonderful food, warm hospitality and endless footpaths to explore the Devon countryside - or drive across to Cornwall... South Hooe is an inspiring haven, the perfect writer's retreat.
