The Experience

Lush rolling Devon countryside: the perfect setting for the luxury of this medieval stone and thatch barn. Light from the glassed-in south wall fills the sitting/dining room, furnished with comfy cream sofas, thick curtains, pale carpet and cream walls. Tall French windows open onto a large terrace with table and barbecue, which in turn leads to a half acre of lawn, a climbing frame, apple trees and meadows. A galley-style kitchen off the main room is small but ergonomic, spotlessly clean and easy to use with its matching yellow gadgets. Upstairs bath and shower rooms are spic and span, and the two carpeted bedrooms are light and airy with beams, vaulted ceilings and muslin curtains; from the comfort of your king-size bed, gaze down the sweep of the valley and plan the day’s adventures. Books and games are to hand, as is a generous welcome hamper of provisions, including Kevin’s own superb Grimpstonleigh apple juice and cider. This is a perfect place for peace-seekers – stay put on the sunny patio, walk from the door along leafy lanes, drive to Dartmouth or Salcombe and watch the yachties at play.

Our favourite place to stay due to the peaceful location, beautiful cottage which is furnished and decorated to a very high standard and the amazing indoor pool. Cannot recommend highly enough. You will not be disappointed.

Sarah, Launceston

Took my family to stay in June 19 as a friend recommended it to us. Can honestly say it was one of our favourite holidays we've had in years. We were greeted warmly by Kevin and Lorraine and quickly understood why the place is a little gem in the South Hams. From the welcome basket to the comfortable beds to the facilities, every detail has been carefully thought out by them. It's ideal if you have kids as there is an indoor heated pool, a play ground and spaces to BBQ. Close to local attractions and beaches. We've already booked for next year!

Beautiful setting. Beautiful cottage. Lovely time.

Robert, London

It’s a 5** accommodation rating from us !! Immaculately clean/very well appointed/most beautiful and idyllic setting/suits all generations of the family as something special for everyone ! The pool is absolutely amazing and spotlessly clean. Kevin takes pride and works hard in keeping this pool to a very high standard. We took advantage and looked at both Cider and Top Bsrn too whilst holidaying in Apple Cottage and equally all three are outstanding ! We hope to be back next year with ALL the family - thank you !

Sara, Southend on sea

Our second visit to Lower Grimpstead and first time to Top Barn. From the Devon Cream Tea provided on arrival to the extra touches to make our holiday all the more enjoyable we had another great holiday. Dressing gowns to head to the indoor pool, wellies for exploring the surrounding farmland and beach towels are all on hand to make life easier. The barn itself is well equipped and comfortable for our family of 5 and the facilities for the the kids are excellent. No doubt, we will be back!

Andrew, Cambridge

Starting with the beautiful and relaxing seclusion of the location, and the pool of course, combined with the faultless comfort of the barn itself we had a wonderful holiday that will last in the memory for many years....well hopefully until next year when we come back!

Tom, Brighton

We had a fantastic weekend. The barn is lovely with lots of special touches such as wellie boots provided for exploring the grounds, handmade soap, amazing hamper on arrival etc. The views are beautiful and its so quiet and restful. The pool was amazing, so clean, modern and warm! Its like getting into a bath. We will definitely be back.

Sarah, Cornwall

A lovely cottage perfect for our family of 4 including a crawling baby. Very comfortable, warm and clean. Good cooking facilities and a generous welcome hamper. We loved the setting in the clean, green countryside with wonderful fresh air. Thoughtful touches like a selection of wellies which were perfect for us. Sadly we ruined our car on the dirt track which the satnav had directed us to take on the way to the cottage. We hadn't see the warnings on the website. Our hosts were extremely kind and helpful in fetching us to the cottage that first night and getting us back to retrieve the car

Chia, London

A slice of the perfect Devon life. A beautiful & peaceful location, Top Barn had everything we needed and more. Acres of land to explore, a play area for kids and even a heated swimming pool for total relaxation after days out. Kevin & Lorraine looked after us really well. The barn itself is light and airy allowing you to enjoy the view from the main bedroom but also felt cosy with a log burner for winter evenings in.

Sally, London

Top barn is a beautifully decorated barn with everything you need to have a relaxing holiday.Kevin and Lorraine do everything they can to make your stay special.

Kevin and Lorraine, who live on site, bend over backwards for their guests – they’ll even pick you up from the station if needed. Kevin is passionate about his orchards of traditional English apples, from which he makes his Pigs Snout Cider, and in the autumn you may well be invited to a harvest supper after a day of picking. Given your immaculate surroundings, it’s no surprise that Lorraine’s thing is interiors. Above all, the couple want your holiday to be special, and they’re proud to count several past guests as friends.
