The Experience
You couldn’t hope to wash up in a better spot, an idyllic village in gorgeous countryside with this lovely inn at its centre. Inside, you find an easy elegance. A panelled lounge comes with sofas, armchairs and open fires – a good spot for afternoon tea; the bar, made from a slab of local elm, is usually propped up by locals.
You eat in the beamed dining room. Breakfast is a real treat: the full cooked works and a buffet table laden with pastries, cured meat, cheeses, yogurt, cereals and homemade jams. Book dinner while you’re here. If you come as a group the ‘feast’ menu has an exciting and inventive choice of sharing plates.
Hire boats, order a picnic from the inn, float down the sleepy Stour, then tie up on the bank for lunch on the grassy banks. Come back to bright and airy bedrooms: those at the back are bigger, but all are lovely with local art and village views.

I have stayed before and once again the staff were all helpful and charming. Food, in the restaurant was excellent for breakfast and dinner. Lunch in the garden was good too. Only using seasonal products works well. Phaeton had a comfortable bed, plenty of space and a good supply of teas and flapjacks. The bathroom worked well and the products available were delightful.

Introducing
Piers Baker
Piers has spent his entire career in catering, and after running some great pubs in London, he now owns three successful ones of his own. He discusses every dish with his head chefs, the bedrooms were decorated to his specification and he is very involved in the day to day management. In both The Sun Inn and The White Hart you're looked after by an attentive and courteous team.
We loved our stay with you in Dedham. Room was great, and in particular the few staff we interacted with (in particular one young woman, whose name I regretfully didn’t pick up, and a couple of others, including a young man), were delightful. Food was also great. Being from Australia, we won’t be visiting regularly, but I have little doubt we would plan to return (next time for a bit longer) and will certainly recommend you to those friends of ours who are more likely to be interested to come to that part of England.
