The Experience
You couldn’t hope to wash up in a better spot, an idyllic village in gorgeous countryside with this lovely inn at its centre. Inside, you find an easy elegance. A panelled lounge comes with sofas, armchairs and open fires – a good spot for afternoon tea; the bar, made from a slab of local elm, is usually propped up by locals.
You eat in the beamed dining room. Breakfast is a real treat: the full cooked works and a buffet table laden with pastries, cured meat, cheeses, yogurt, cereals and homemade jams. Book dinner while you’re here. If you come as a group the ‘feast’ menu has an exciting and inventive choice of sharing plates.
Hire boats, order a picnic from the inn, float down the sleepy Stour, then tie up on the bank for lunch on the grassy banks. Come back to bright and airy bedrooms: those at the back are bigger, but all are lovely with local art and village views.

Business Trip and Excellent Stay - I found myself working in Essex, needed to stay overnight and a relatively early start the following day. For a similar price (on the night I stayed) to a Premiere Inn in Ipswich you can stay at The Sun. I stayed in Elsa, very comfortable and ate in the restaurant, excellent food. I needed to be away just before 08.00 and discovered breakfast started at 08.15. Not a problem and staff came in early to provide me an excellent cooked breakfast. Fantastic place to stay.

A fantastic stay over surrounded by lovely people who were there for our every need. The bar staff, restaurant colleagues and even the cleaners all spoke very kindly to us and made us feel so welcome. Relaxing in the room with the large open fire on comfy settees was the highlight to the evening before enjoying an amazing meal. The decor in the main bar, restaurant and the rooms is very well thought through and added to the experience. Can't speak highly enough of the experience and we've already shared with family and friends around our village in West Bergholt in the hope that you will get a

Introducing
Piers Baker
Piers has spent his entire career in catering, and after running some great pubs in London, he now owns three successful ones of his own. He discusses every dish with his head chefs, the bedrooms were decorated to his specification and he is very involved in the day to day management. In both The Sun Inn and The White Hart you're looked after by an attentive and courteous team.
We would recommend anyone to stay at The Sun Inn. It's so atmospheric, especially with the Christmas Market & the high street sparkling in the early evening light. The food was delicious. The rooms were very comfortable & the staff were excellent.
