The Experience

A cleverly designed conversion of two listed barns by friendly owners Fiona and Peter – they live on one side (but you have lots of privacy) and leave you a welcome hamper of local bread, cake, juices, jams and Nespresso capsules.

It’s a wonderful space for gatherings with elegant bedrooms and modern bathrooms; prepare dinner on the range cooker, keep toes toasty around the wood-burner and with underfloor heating, stay in for a movie night (there’s a big TV with everything you’ll need).

Outside you’ll find a garden with barbecue (sizzle sausages from one of two excellent farm shops nearby) and an undercover area with sofas for al fresco drinks surrounded by a lovely weeping willow and plenty of wildlife – you’ll only hear owls and maybe the odd tractor. You can walk to the Jolly Sailor pub over fields in just over an hour.

Reviews

A beautiful, elegant and tranquil barn conversion in a totally rural location and yet only half an hour from the M27, or an hour and a half by train from London, this would be a perfect place for 2 or 3 couples to unwind and explore the stunning countryside and the nearby city of Winchester, the naval history of Portsmouth and Chichester (and the brilliant theatre at Chichester)

We went to Church Farm Barns to celebrate a birthday, find some peace and to meet up with family. The barn was delightful and excellent for all of these. Peter and Fiona have built and curated a beautiful and well cared for environment within which to enjoy a holiday - whatever the weather. Peter was most helpful in ensuring we were comfortable and we could not fault our wonderful stay.

Oren, Hertzliya

The church lane barn is a beautiful peaceful property. It is spacious, well equipped, decorated with great taste. Peter & Fiona are very attentive and accommodate all needs.

Gordon and Phoebe, London

What a most delightful barn conversion! We have stayed in many high quality holiday rentals over the years, but this tops them all. The design and layout is fantastic and it is very well equipped, with everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. There are beautiful pictures and artwork; someone with a very good eye has clearly been at work! We will definitely be back and will look forward to enjoying the outdoor areas next time!

Bea, Lewes

Our stay at Church Lane Barns was good from start to finish. Peter and Fiona were great communicators and very welcoming. The accommodation was lovely. A beautifully presented and comfortable, well equipped living space made extra special by the addition of the personal touches of delicious food provided. The garden is lovely, it is peaceful and surrounded by lovely countryside. A thoroughly great experience.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re in a fairly quiet spot but there’s a farm and a few other barns close by; walk 10 minutes to Botley – a pretty village on the upper banks of the river Hamble with much history. Reach Winchester or Chichester in 40 minutes for culture, cathedrals, theatres and the sea; the South Downs National Park is close for long walks. You can take the train straight from Botley into London in less than two hours.

Local points of interest from Peter & Fiona Hudd

  • Explore neighbouring Manor Farm, walking along the banks of the River Hamble through the delightful country park to Bursledon or take the river taxi downstream as far as Hamble. Hire a paddle board in Bursledon if you want to see the river close up!
  • The beautiful Meon valley is on your doorstep with attractive villages and stunning scenery to enjoy. After a bracing walk on Old Winchester Hill, a highlight of the South Downs Way, enjoy a well earned rest at a country pub.
  • Take the scenic route to Winchester via the pretty village of Cheriton and visit the Georgian market town of Alresford with its interesting shops, cafes and pubs. A walk along the banks of the clear chalk stream River Itchen is not to be missed!
  • You are within striking distance of the historic cathedral city of Chichester with its renowned theatre and art galleries. Nearby Bosham and the Fishbourne Roman Palace are well worth a visit.
  • The beautiful gardens of West Dean, near Chichester, make for an inspirational day out. The nearby Weald and Downland Museum is a must for historic building enthusiasts. Goodwood is not far if you wish to visit the historic motor circuit or race course.
  • Unwind in our 'sitooterie' and watch the goldfinches in the weeping willow. On a clear night you may catch a glimpse of the barn owl flying low across the fields. Listen out for the little owls in the oak tree behind.
