The Experience

There is much space to spread out and have fun: seating in the grand panelled entrance hall, a big living room with a grand piano, a library, snug and games room, most with wood-burners (wood provided) which can be lit before you arrive. The games room has a pool table, air hockey table and many board games and puzzles, so if you’re stuck indoors you can still enjoy yourselves.

On summer days you’ll be out of doors where you can light the barbecue on the sun terrace and open your welcome bottle of fizz while children play safely in the woodland – climbing trees, making dens, enjoying freedom. Down by the lake there’s a summer house with a gas stove and kettle for a cup of tea. The big kitchen has a myriad of gadgets plus a warming double Aga, a dry bar and a separate pantry with huge fridge/freezer.

Bedrooms are spread out over the main wing on the first floor and the north wing – all are comfortable and with lovely views.

Reviews

An absolutely fabulous venue with the most attentive host. The house is in an excellent state of repair and furnished to a very high standard. Lots of different spaces both large and small made this ideal for our weekend celebration. And the grounds are also fabulous but we couldn't enjoy them fully sadly because of the poor weather. Maybe next time!

We stayed here for a family wedding taking place near by rowden Abbey . I must say we had an amazing time . Charlie was very welcoming and very knowledgeable. We had a party of ten of us and each and every room was spotless and had a story behind them .Charlie put on an amazing breakfast and her hospitality was fantastic over the whole stay she couldn't do enough for us nothing was to much trouble for her . I would highly recommend this place to stay if your visiting bromyard .

Peter, DUDLEY

I booked Rowden Abbey for the weekend of my Dad's 60th birthday. Charlie who manages the house was extremely helpful and informative when we arrived and throughout our stay. The property is magnificent and everyone had a brilliant time exploring the house and area. We loved Bentley the Great dain and got to meet Ernie the owner who was super friendly. It was a very memorable and special weekend.

Gather your friends and family together and soak up the charm and history this property has to offer. With ample space inside and out, and plenty of interesting towns nearby, you won't be short of things to do and places to explore.

Nicole, Sawday's Inspector

We loved our stay at Rowden Abbey, from the very start were made to feel so welcome. Charlie had thought of everything, leaving us wanting for nothing. She made a real effort to accommodate our vegan diet too! Nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were delightful, and the house, beautifully retained it’s Arts and Crafts features. A perfect setting for a couple of days away, thank you

Vicky, Grantham

We had an incredible time and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone! It was super friendly and a beautiful location.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're two miles outside Bromyard – known as the town of festivals. Here you can shop at Legges of Bromyard, an independent butcher who also sells Peter Cooks breads and pastries. There is also a good food market once a month. Visit Ralph Court Gardens, Brockhampton and Berrington Hall, Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum, Hampton Court Castle. Ludlow, Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye are 45 minutes.

Local points of interest from Charlie Martin

  • Ideally situated in the stunning Herefordshire countryside, set in 30 acres of private, secluded Estate with gardens, lake, woodland and river walk and hidden shepherds huts, perfect for relaxing with a good book.
  • Just a five minute drive away is the market town of Bromyard, with a monthly market, outstanding butchers, bakers, delicatessen and coffee shops.
  • Just a 10 minute drive away and you can be at Penson Restaurant, a Michelin star restaurant with a field to fork ethos and incredible food. Up in the village is the local pub serving good quality, reasonably priced homecooked food.
  • We are lucky to be situated equal distance from Worcester, Hereford, Ludlow, Ledbury, Malvern and slightly further away (great for a day trip) Cheltenham, Hay-On-Wye and Elan Valley. With many driving, walking & food trails on the doorstep.
  • Close by is Hampton Court Castle & Grounds, NT Brockhampton Estate, NT Berrington Hall, all with historical attachments to Rowden Abbey. There are beautiful gardens to visit; Stockton Bury Gardens, Hergest Croft Gardens & Hellens Manor our favourites.
  • Herefordshire is abundant with artisan food & drink producers; cider rooms, real ale breweries, gin distilleries, artisan cheese & bread makers. Alternatively, if cars are your thing, a trip to the Morgan museum or Shelsley Walsh Hill climb might appeal.
