The Experience

You’re just off the high street for a farm shop, good butcher and The Whitstable Fish Market on the harbour for fresh, sustainable fish and oysters. Bring everything back to the kitchen, a superb space with handmade wooden worktops, a big range cooker, Smeg fridge and every pot and pan you could want – including a lobster pot. Refillable glass jars of pasta, rice etc can be replaced at the zero waste shop, there are cupboards of herbs and spices, plus a bottle of Prosecco cooling.

Bedrooms are spread over the two floors: find vintage beds and mirrors, plants, rich hand cream and bath robes; the downstairs bathroom has a vintage roll top and the upstairs a shower – both have Aesop body wash. In summer you’ll be in the walled garden which is just made for entertaining and has a summerhouse (with a cinema projector and WiFi), a chiminea, hammock, and an outdoor kitchen with a Big Green Egg – perfect for smoking, roasting and pizza making.

If you’re stuck indoors then play some vinyl or a board game, choose a book, light the open fire and settle on a restful Chesterfield.

Enjoy this unique, slightly quirky, and characterful cottage before heading out to explore the local independent high street and scenic coastline. A winderful relaxing stay at the Cooks Cottage. Although being sef catering, from start to finish we were looked after by Selina. The cottage itself was lovely, and we had plenty of room for a family of 6, including our dog! There was a lovely welcome basket on arrival, fantastic guides for the local area, which is stunning, and even a summer house wuth a projector where our kids enjoyed watching Harry Potter. Would thoroughly recommend.

Antony, Derby

We had a fantastic time visiting Whitstable and the neighbouring places. It was our first time visiting this area of the country and I would definitely return again. The cottage we stayed in was lovely. The cottage had everything you could possibly need. The shower was amazing, the bath tub looked nice although I never used it. The garden area is amazing, great for BBQ or just eating outside as a family. I would recommend allowing little dogs who are use to sleeping in the same bed as owners, if you did change that rule, I would say get a low bed for easy access for small dog to jump up.

Blaise, Malaga

Having spent my early childhood in Whitstable, I decided it was time to take my 13 year old daughter for a visit. The Cooks Cottage made our trip. It is an absolute treasure — a stay that’s both effortlessly relaxed and thoughtfully designed. From the moment you arrive, you’re struck by its rustic charm and individuality. It’s not just another holiday let — it’s full of character, quirks, and warmth that instantly make you feel at home. What really sets it apart is the attention to detail. Every room has its own personality, blending old-world touches with modern comfort.

Beautiful house, wonderful and responsive hosts, amazing location. Our absolute first choice for Whitstable. The kitchen has everything you could possible need, and every little detail has been thought of, with beautiful touches throughout the house and garden. Minutes from the the sea and high street, and a lovely garden to eat in with BBQ and fire for the evening. Child friendly, dog friendly, spacious clean, cosy and peaceful. Highly recommend!

Location

The neighbourhood

It's an arty place, Whitstable, so you'll find a myriad of galleries, independent restaurants, pubs and shops. You're also just a 30-second wander to the sea front for a blast of ozone – from here the sunsets are fabulous, and it’s dog-friendly all year round. In Seasalter (10-mins in the car) is The Sportsman - Michelin starred. There are coastal and woodland walks, bird sanctuaries and water sports such as paddle boarding to try.

Local points of interest from Selina & Tom

  • Whitstable is known for its spectacular sunsets. Nothing beats sitting outside the Neptune pub and watching the sun go down. It's a Whistable tradition. Everyone stops what they’re doing and heads to the beach to see the sunset at the close of the day.
  • Once you've parked your car and checked in to our cottage you won't need to use the car again as everything is just a short walk away, from all the independent shops to the many bars and restaurants. And the beach is just a 30-sec walk to as well!
  • Whitstable is foodie heaven and is known for its Oysters and fresh fish. This small coastal town is also packed with lots of amazing places to eat & drink.
  • Recommend booking into The Sportsman in Seasalter, a Michelin star restaurant that has stood in its windswept coastal position since 1642. Book ahead as there is a 3-month waiting list. Also, we recommend Wheelers in Whitstable & JoJo's in Tankerton.
  • Whitstable is a private beach so dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. Whistable is probably one of the most dog-friendly towns in the UK and most of the bars and some of the restaurants are dog friendly.
  • Whitstable and the surrounding area offers some of the best cycling. From the longer Kent Coast Way which is a 68 miles round trip from Whitstable to Sandwich, to the shorter Crab & Winkle Way which is 7.6 miles in total between Whitstable & Canterbury.

Introducing

Selina & Tom

Selina and Tom have spent years renovating the cottage and filling it with their French flea market and vintage shop finds. She's keen that you support the local shops and she leaves lots of information so you can enjoy your stay to the full. They called the cottage The Cook's Cottage because of their love of cooking (especially Tom's), which you can tell by how well-equipped the kitchen is.
