The Experience

As evening falls, and Easton Walled Gardens’ visitors leave, these 12 historic acres are yours. Enjoy the turf maze, the vegetable garden, the orchards, the roses, the snowdrops in February and the sweet peas in July – 50 varieties! You can even chat with the gardeners.

The old coach house, alongside the entrance, holds three new apartments upstairs. The largest is the Hay Loft (with a huge vaulted ceiling and stylish white beams) and the smallest is Coach House 2, in the middle. All are open-plan and ideal for two, with fold-away kitchenettes and beds dressed in fine linen.

On summer mornings you can bask in the sun in the stable courtyard below or get sporty on Rutland Water. Eat brilliantly at the Olive Branch in Clipsham, or at the Cholmeley Arms, a three-mile drive.

Reviews

The Hay Loft was such a beautiful apartment. Everything was top quality, brilliantly thought out and spotlessly clean. The little touches like fresh flowers on the windowsill and a delicious gluten free cake were really thoughtful too. It was so lovely to be able to wander around the gardens early in the morning and have them all to ourselves, so quiet and peaceful. It really felt like such a special place to stay.

Stephanie, Oakham

A lovely relaxing holiday in immaculate accommodation. We enjoyed some pleasant walks in the peaceful gardens, often followed by a visit to the courtyard coffee shop.

Barbara, Willington, Derby

We had a wonderful stay. The accommodation was lovely and to a very high standard. Staff were lovely and gardens amazing. We would return in a heartbeat.

Tracey, Cranford, Kettering

Very nice place to stay.

David, Woodborough

We had the most wonderful stay in The Hayloft. It is beautifully appointed with, literally, everything you could possibly need. We were blessed with fabulously warm and sunny weather so could take full advantage of visiting the garden. We plan to go back in the winter months as we believe the loft will be wonderfully cosy and a great place to 'hunker down'. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Lisa, NEWBURY

Wonderful stay at this hidden treasure. The room was superbly equipped, spotlessly clean and fabulous value for money. A lovely little welcome pack was also included, thank you. Having the beautiful gardens to yourself once the day visitors have gone home and again before they arrive the following morning really is the icing on the cake. We hope to be back sooner rather than later.

Robert, Lincoln

The apartment we stayed in (coach house loft 1)was really well planned out and was clean, warm and comfortable. The flowers in the room were a nice touch and the scones were a lovely welcome. The larder kitchen has everything you need. The bathroom was warm and spacious with thick fluffy towels. The bed was really comfortable. It was great to be able to walk around the gardens in the evening with the place to ourselves. Everything was so peaceful. It was a shame to go back to "real life" after our stay!

Gisele

The Coach House Loft 1 was very well equipped and had everything we needed for a very comfortable and cosy overnight stay. We were made to feel very welcome, and we particularly enjoyed the opportunity to explore the beautiful gardens outside of the normal opening hours. This was our second visit, and we look forward to returning again in the coming months.

Alex, Eyemouth

The entire Easton Walled Gardens experience was an absolute joy from start to finish. We felt as though we had been transported to a magical Christmas world. The accommodation was warm, charming and welcoming. Quite frankly I could happily live in the Hayloft for the rest of my life. The welcoming scones, jam, cream were delicious!! We also enjoyed delicious tea and cake in the coffee shop and spent ages wandering around the Christmas shop. Oh, nearly forgot the gardens in which we had a lovely walk. The whole experience was perfect in every way!!

Patricia

Fantastic stay. Room was lovely and warm and cosy and furnished to the highest standards - everything felt luxury quality including the hand soap! Lovely to have access to the grounds Highly recommend

Sue, Billericay

The Coach House Loft 2 is immaculately presented to a very high standard and is extremely comfortable. I stayed for 4 nights and was travelling alone. The kitchenette is very clever and everything is there but space is at a premium so to prepare anything more than a light meal for 2 people might be a challenge. The location is perfect and very beautiful. It is worth noting that it is necessary to drive to pubs, restaurants and shops.

Susan, Tunbridge Wells

This was our second visit and once again we had a fabulous stay. The accommodation is beautifully comfortable - designed so everything feels easy and comfortable. Little touches make it feel like a luxurious treat - delicious scones and a note of welcome! The really big draw which will bring us back again is the setting. The garden is magical and having it all to ourselves was such a treat. A wonderful place to stay.

Ruth, Reading

A return visit to The Hayloft, a welcome break on our annual journey north. This apartment provides everything we need for a couple of nights. An exceptionally clean, well designed room, quality furniture, comfy bed and a very clever kitchen larder/sink/microwave/hob. After a long journey the gardens are beautiful to wander around, especially in the evening. Arriving to home made scones, delicious home made jam and clotted cream is a thoughtful touch. We are staying again on our return journey, safe in the knowledge that everything will be just perfect!

Roz, East Sussex

Wonderful! I think having bathrobes as you get if you book May Lodge or the Gate House should be included.

Julie, Rushton

What an amazing place. I stayed in the Coach House 2 with my dog and we had such a relaxing time. The gardens are excellent and the history of the house and the gardens is fascinating. The room was wonderful. All the staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us and made us very welcome. Will be looking to book again soon.

Lynne, Rushton Kettering

A wonderful place to visit, wish we could stay longer.

Scilla, Daventry

Fabulous stay in beautifully decorated, comfortable Hayloft. The garden is a wonder.

Mary, Marazion

Beautiful loft house conversion. Small but very well equiped and furnished. Free access to the lovely restored gardens of the old demolished mansion. Excellent parking. Greatly enjoyed the homemade scones cream and strawberry jam waiting for us on arrival. Cant fault it in any way!

We stayed 2 nights in a Garden Loft apartment. The room and bathroom are cleverly designed incorporating everything you need from a hidden kettle and microwave along with butter, jam, etc to under basin storage. A very comfortable bed, room to sit at a table, good wi-fi and above all the glorious Easton Walled Gardens to wander in, excellent cafe and a great shop.

Julia, Compton

My husband and l stayed at Eastern Gardens' Lofts to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. It was absolutely perfect! The loft had everything that we needed and it was great to have access to the beautiful gardens. It was just what we wanted - time to ourselves to reminisce in the most special environment. We will most definitely return and highly recommend a visit.

Location

The neighbourhood

The gardens themselves are a major draw but also reachable within 30 minutes are stately homes such as 16th-century Burghley House and Gardens, and Belvoir Castle, home of the 11th Duke of Rutland. Antique hunters will head for the handsome market towns of Uppingham and Stamford, while Rutland Water (15 miles) is a haven for ornithologists, cyclists and sailors... and well-heeled foodies, thanks to Hambleton Hall.

Local points of interest from Sir Fred Cholmeley

  • The Loft Apartments are in Easton Walled Gardens, the gardens of the former Easton Hall which have been lovingly brought back to life by the Cholmeley family. Guests have free, unlimited access to the Gardens during their stay.
  • The Lofts are on the Easton Estate, owned by the Cholmeley Family since 1561. The Estate's pub, the Cholmeley Arms, is just over 3 miles away and serves the most delicious food.
  • The lovely market towns of Stamford and Oakham are within easy driving distance, as is Rutland Water. See Our Local Guide on our website for more things to do and see when staying with us.
  • We are an easy drive from many parts of the UK - just over 100 miles from each of London, Cheltenham, , Manchester and York
  • FD Roosevelt (32nd President of the United States) and his wife, Eleanor, spent their honeymoon at Easton Hall, as guests of the Cholmeley Family.
  • Sir Isaac Newton was born just across the road at Woolsthorpe Manor, now a National Trust property and open to the public.

Introducing

Sir Fred Cholmeley

Generations of Cholmeleys have managed The Easton Estate in Lincolnshire since 1561. Sir Fred and his wife, keen to introduce guests to the beauty and tranquillity of country life, have been running their Walled Gardens as a visitor attraction since the early 2000s. They live on The Easton Estate, and have holidayed in their Norfolk Yellow House since 2004 too.
