The Experience

An old stone shippen on a remote hillside in an AONB valley, with designer décor, delightful owners, and a glass-and-oak gable for heaven-sent views. No longer a cattle shed, this is one big living, sleeping and eating space with a south-facing decked veranda that gazes on Shropshire’s sweet hills. Timbers have been re-used, the slate roof raised, and the stone floor replaced by pristine planks of oak. Not a building in sight, other than Jeannie and Paul’s discreet farmhouse… just a sloping grass garden, a mini orchard and masses of wildlife. It’s heaven for couples or families (there’s a sofabed if you’ve little ones in tow), and perfect in every season; snuggle up by the the log-burner in winter and barbecue in summer. There’s a filter for spring water, Freesat, Netflix, PlayStation, a wet room that takes a wheelchair, and a robot vacuum cleaner (a Sawday’s first?!). Stroll the cobbled streets of Bishop’s Castle and Shrewsbury, enjoy a local pint by the river, hike to the top of the Long Mynd. Then back to board games by the fire, bright starry skies, and owls that hoot you to sleep.

Reviews

Anna, St Albans

The Shippen is a real gem. We stayed there for the third time and can't recommend it enough. Beautiful place, perfect for a battery recharge from a busy life in London. The host are always welcoming and ever so helpful. Pack some good reads and your walking boots, its a perfect place for sleeping, reading, walking and daydreaming. Highly recommemded.

Hutton, London

The Shippen is a wonderful getaway in the Shropshire hills. We were attracted by the photographs which showed the surrounding beauty and high-end decor, but you have to visit to appreciate the full experience. Jeannine and Paul were excellent hosts and very good communicators. We visited with our daughter and puppy, plenty of room and lots of lovely walks in the area.

Derek & Tina, St Helens Merseyside.

Relaxing and beautiful location, peaceful and quiet, although transport is a must to get to the nearest pub ! but that wasn't a problem for us. Accommodation, very spacious, comfortable in all aspects. Stunningly decorated to a high standard, plenty of kitchen equipment. Can't fault this place, if your looking for peace and quiet this is the place for you.

Cathy, Sheffield

Our stay at the Shippen was superb...a little mix up on arrival with a faulty key safe but Jeannie very quickly resolved the situation. Everything you need has been provided ....especially board games which came in handy when the weather closed in on us! The water system can be a bit hit and miss ( water comes from their own spring) but when you consider the location and the unique accommodation it is something you can live with. The log burner is wonderful and creates a wonderful cosy atmosphere. If you want to experience a peaceful and rural haven this is the place. The views are stunning.

Helen, Cheadle Hulme

We wanted peace and quiet in a natural setting, in a beautiful space, and that was just what we got ! On a clear night you can watch the stars from the bed. It was perfect, so much so that while we were there we booked it for New Year..............so really looking forward to that :0)
