The Experience

Tucked back from the road in its own courtyard, this unusual little house is right in the old heart of Chichester. Enter an open-plan sitting/dining room with a cute kitchen at the back, a warm cosy space of open beams and wooden floors… a dark olive wall here, a blue sofa there, local art, velvet cushions, a wood-burner. Generous Rachel leaves you logs, muffins, Montezuma chocolates, soft towels, flowers, soaps from Molton Brown – every little luxury. She also offers fresh meals and hampers, and her ‘Eat, Drink and Explore’ guide to the area she loves. Bed and bath lie at the top of the carpeted stair and all is airy, peaceful and light, with low beams, latch doors and a classic-but-modern feel. Come morning, head south for the sand dunes of West Wittering, or north for the paths of the South Downs National Park. Or stay put and explore one of the most civilised cities in England; cathedral, theatre, galleries and shops are a stroll away. There’s even private parking in your courtyard garden, but with the station so close, you could roll in by train.

Reviews

Amanda, London

This little house is absolutely perfect. Really well situated in central Chichester and with the luxury of its own parking spot. Everything was utterly pristine - linens, towels, kitchen, bathroom - and welcoming - fresh flowers, bread and pastries, super hot water and a basket full of logs for the fire. The owner really has thought of everything. The welcome book tells you all you need to know and is extremely clear and well thought through. I will definitely stay here again.

The Clockhouse in Chichester is a wonderful and comfortable home from home stay. Clean, beautifully decorated and convenient and quiet. Rachel is so accommodating lovely fresh pastries and milk are always left for her guests to enjoy. Cannot recommend highly enough and I have stayed on numerous occasions. The ideal place to stay if visiting Chichester or the surrounding area.

Andrea, Sissinghurst, Kent

Beautiful interior design throughout. Really comfy king size bed and soft pillows. We cooked there a couple of times and found everything we needed in the kitchen. The location is absolutely perfect being in the centre of the city but in a quiet side road. Being able to park the car on the forecourt of the property is a real bonus, and there’s still room in the garden to sit at the table and chairs amongst the flowers for a G&T after a busy day exploring! A truly unique property!

Celia, Hartley, Kent
