The Experience

Tucked back from the road in its own courtyard, this unusual little house is right in the old heart of Chichester. Enter an open-plan sitting/dining room with a cute kitchen at the back, a warm cosy space of open beams and wooden floors… a dark olive wall here, a blue sofa there, local art, velvet cushions, a wood-burner. Generous Rachel leaves you logs, muffins, Montezuma chocolates, soft towels, flowers, soaps from Molton Brown – every little luxury. She also offers fresh meals and hampers, and her ‘Eat, Drink and Explore’ guide to the area she loves. Bed and bath lie at the top of the carpeted stair and all is airy, peaceful and light, with low beams, latch doors and a classic-but-modern feel. Come morning, head south for the sand dunes of West Wittering, or north for the paths of the South Downs National Park. Or stay put and explore one of the most civilised cities in England; cathedral, theatre, galleries and shops are a stroll away. There’s even private parking in your courtyard garden, but with the station so close, you could roll in by train.

Reviews

janet, high wycombe

This is just the best, we could not fault it for all thoughtful touches that the owner had left. Its beautifully fitted out with flowers everywhere and good quality tea and coffee and food staples to get you going. The house was perfectly situated right in the middle of the old city but situated in a no through street so as quiet as being off a country lane. The shops and the cathedral were just a stroll away as was the Festival Theatre. The little courtyard could accommodate the car and was bathed in sunshine for much of the day and a lovely spot to enjoy your evening glass of wine.

David, Faringdon

Something of a Mary Poppins house - practically perfect in every way. In fact scratch that I think it is perfect! Great location, beautifully decorated and equipped, full of character, amazingly luxurious bed, duvet and pillows, towels thicker than most carpets. But most of all are the final touches that Rachel leaves that truly make you feel welcome, fresh flowers, pastries, wine, tea, coffee and much more. Left (very reluctantly)feeling truly valued and pampered. This really is a special place to stay.

Jacqueline, London

We enjoyed our stay very much everything you could want for and more and we were property searching and we have found our dream home while staying in The Clock House .

Tony & Brenda, Potters Bar

This is a superb, well-maintained property affording a relaxing stay in a charming city. Everything is provided; the decor is beautiful and certainly to our taste. Parking is off-road before the front door. Restaurants and food shopping just minutes away. Cathedral 5 minutes; Festival Theatre 5 minutes. Many other splendid houses, gardens and the sea just 30 minutes or so. Great provision of activity ideas in house. This is the best property we have stayed in in over 25 years. Well done Rachel and thank you. Thoroughly recommended. Go on - book it!

Anne, West Sussex

Fabulous - Would highly recommend this perfect little cottage - Everything was sparkling clean and lots of lovely treats that Rachel had thoughtfully provided. Chichester is a lovely location to visit
