The Experience
A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

A marvellous stay in a magical place. Everything was so comfortable and the scent from the wisteria was wonderful. We felt very cosseted and cared for by our hosts: nothing was too much trouble. We’d definitely visit again.

Anvil Cottage is a wonderful place to stay: spacious and beautifully presented with very comfortable beds, high quality linen and towels and a very well equipped kitchen. Gill is an excellent host - friendly and helpful - and has genuinely thought of everything a guest might need. She also provides a very generous Welcome Hamper. We have stayed at Anvil Cottage several times and it is always a pleasure to come back. Very highly recommended.

Anvil Cottage is a truly wonderful space. Warm, cosy, beautifully furnished with every attention to detail. Gill was so welcoming and helpfully communicative before our stay. The property and the village are amazingly picturesque. We were expecting Jude Law to turn up at any minute :-). The location is great too. Easy to access from the M4 and not far from Bath. We will definitely be back.

Excellent stay for our family (2 young children). Lovely walks all around and great base for Slimbridge and Longleat. Ducks and goats within 59 metres a real bonus. Cottage had everything we needed, incredibly comfortable and stacked with goodies on our arrival. Would thoroughly recommend and hope to be back for more exploring in the future.

We recently stayed in Anvil Cottage for a family event that was happening in Biddestone and it was the most perfect base. Gill and Andrew were so accommodating, the cottage (and garden surrounding it) is beautiful, spacious, comfy and so well equipped. And we had a delicious welcome basket on arrival! The village itself is beyond charming, and it was so easy to go out on lovely day trips in the local area. We will certainly be back!
