The Experience
A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

We throughly enjoyed our week at Anvil Cottage. It’s extremely comfortable and well equipped, in a beautiful location inside the Close and in a picture book village. Gill and Andrew are are charming hosts. They provided everything, including a welcome basket of food and wine, to make the stay special. Highly recommended.

What a welcome! We all needed a break, and the welcome hamper, full of lovely goodies, fresh flowers, wonderful warmth and comfort! Lots of games, and a range too die for! Thank you both for your understanding and looking after us, beautiful garden and pub recommendations, pity the donkeys were snooty with us, all they really wanted was carrots and we hadn't any!

We had a wonderful stay at Anvil cottage. An amazing location and stunning property. Comfortable, clean and spacious but also lots of character. The hosts were lovely and so helpful from start to finish. The welcome goodies were also a treat. We hope to visit again soon.

We stayed at the Cottage for a week - and it was everything we had hoped for. The location was superb for drives out to Lacock and Castle Combe, whilst the village itself was a hidden gem of the English countryside. No wonder it has been used for TV location work. The property is immaculately kept and our hosts were very generous with the welcome pack of treats to be going on with. Our stay coincided with UK's heatwave alert whilst inside the cottage remained pleasant. We would highly recommend this venue to anybody seeking a slice of Cotswold life in the grounds of a wonderful mansion.

As England lovers, we stayed at Anvil Cottage for a week and we loved it on all counts! Its quiet location in the middle of a picturesque village immediately captured our imagination. The cottage itself was cosy, very spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. Everything radiated beauty and even though the weather was not always ideal, the lovely driveway and garden smiled at us every day. Biddestone is also well located for exploring Bath and visiting numerous interesting sites, houses and gardens. Highly recommended!
