The Experience
A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at Anvil cottage. We felt so lucky to be able to go due to the timely lifting of the covid restrictions and the holiday was the perfect tonic after a tough winter. We all had a great time, the cottage was very comfortable and well appointed and in a stunning little village complete with ducks and goats and of course the resident donkeys and beautiful dog. Our daughter (11months) loved being able to crawl about everywhere and enjoyed the animals. Great area for cycling and exploring. All round perfect little break, thank you.

We had such a wonderful stay at Gill's beautiful cottage! It was perfectly stocked with everything we could have needed and more. Despite the circumstances, there was still plenty to do given all the lovely nature sites around the charming village (and of course the donkeys on Gill's property were always happy to come say hello). The cottage was impeccably clean and safety protocols were thoroughly implemented to protect guests and hosts from COVID. Gill made every effort to be welcoming and helpful should anything arise. Overall it was a fantastic experience and we would definitely recommend!

We have just had a most enjoyable week in Anvil Cottage. Our host Gill made us so welcome and the cottage was exactly as described and in the photos. Excellent accommodation , 2 bed and 2 bathrooms ideal for a family or two couples. In a beautiful quiet setting in the centre of a small unspoilt village with a great local pub. We would certainly recommend this excellent cottage and very central for many good National Trust properties and other worthwhile visits.
