The Experience

A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

Reviews

Ginny, Arundel

We loved our stay at Anvil Cottage. It was the perfect place to keep warm and cosy during the winter weather. It’s a really glamorous and luxurious conversion of an Old Forge with incredibly comfortable beds, underfloor heating, a high tech kitchen and 5 star hotel style bathrooms. We can’t wait to return next year!

Tim, Melksham

Anvil cottage is a really luxurious and beautifully renovated Old Forge. We stayed here as a family with my two children on two separate occasions and thoroughly recommend it. All the beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms are of an exceptionally high standard. It’s the perfect place to stay in a beautiful Wiltshire village, surrounded by lovely countryside and a perfect base from which to explore Bath.

Sawdays properties have never let us down, and Anvil Cottage was no exception! Blissfull beds and high quality furnishings, and the luxury of two bathrooms. The garden was enchanting, as was the village of Biddestone, with local pubs only a walk across the green, with cute little ducks waddling around. Heavenly, thank you.

Anna, Coxley

Anvil cottage was so much more than we expected. The accommodation was clean and fitted to a very high standard, very spacious and safe for our roaming toddler, with only 2 shallow steps down to the bedrooms. The owner was friendly, introducing us to their fostered friendly donkeys and giving us lots of ideas of places to visit. There are so many local attractions which were within a very short drive, making our holiday much more enjoyable with our son. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful and the village is full of interesting details. We would love to return with friends

Katharine, Bath

We had a marvellous stay at Anvil Cottage in Biddestone. We stay in self-catering accommodation all the time and this was by far and away one of the best we've ever experienced. Gill couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and the cottage is beautifully appointed. A wonderful bonus is the resident duo of donkeys and visiting them became a daily pilgrimage. We would heartily recommend this lovely cottage in such beautiful surroundings.
