The Experience

A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

Reviews

Anna, Coxley

Anvil cottage was so much more than we expected. The accommodation was clean and fitted to a very high standard, very spacious and safe for our roaming toddler, with only 2 shallow steps down to the bedrooms. The owner was friendly, introducing us to their fostered friendly donkeys and giving us lots of ideas of places to visit. There are so many local attractions which were within a very short drive, making our holiday much more enjoyable with our son. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful and the village is full of interesting details. We would love to return with friends

Katharine, Bath

We had a marvellous stay at Anvil Cottage in Biddestone. We stay in self-catering accommodation all the time and this was by far and away one of the best we've ever experienced. Gill couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and the cottage is beautifully appointed. A wonderful bonus is the resident duo of donkeys and visiting them became a daily pilgrimage. We would heartily recommend this lovely cottage in such beautiful surroundings.

Siew-Ching, London

Anvil Cottage has been renovated and decorated to very high standard. The house was cosy, warm (underfloor heating and the firewood that GillIan had thoughtfully provided were fantastic for the cold nights) and comfortable. The garden and setting around the house was beautifully maintained and was a real pleasure to stroll through. If you have kids, they will enjoy the donkeys! Finally GillIan was a great host - very warm and accommodating and gave us some really good suggestions for places to visit.

Sally, Vancouver

This was a spacious and beautifully decorated cottage that had everything we needed and more. A lovely environment and very welcoming hosts. The village was picturesque and the pub down the road was very handy for evening meals with no driving necessary. We loved it all!!

Fumika, Osaka

Amazing stay at Anvil Cottage! We arrived late afternoon and on arrival the owner gave us a very warm welcome then showed us around the cottage properly. There were 2 donkeys and 2 pigs in the backyard. We enjoyed to see them every morning. The property itself is very clean and tidy and has everything you would need. If you are looking for a nice place, come and stay here. The owners are very kind. The best accommodation ever.
