The Experience
A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

We stayed for 4 nights in March 2018 on a mixed business/vacation trip. The property is even nicer than it looks in the photos - beautifully appointed both internally and externally. The underfloor heating kept the cottage nice and warm at all times, and we supplemented that in the evenings with roaring log fires. The cottage is in the picturesque village of Biddestone and is well located for exploring the area, albeit you need a car to get around. We will certainly return if we visit the area again.

Our stay at Anvil Cottage was to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday with our friends and we could not have wished for more comfortable and luxurious accommodation and such a welcoming host. It was lovely to explore the area during the day and return to a warm and cosy cottage in the evenings. We love cooking, so chose to cook which was a delight in the well-equipped kitchen and we entertained our friends in the spacious dining area. We would not hesitate to recommend Anvil Cottage!

Anvil cottage is simply superb! Beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped, Andrew and Gill have thought of everything their guests may need to make their stay comfortable whatever the weather. Lots to see and do in the area for all ages throughout the year whether it’s sports, theatre, museums, walking or dining. Easy travel to Bath and Bristol and into the surrounding countryside. Our family has visited three times and we’ve booked to return.

An excellent cottage in a beautiful village. Plenty to see and visit nearby. Luckily we had very warm sunny weather and were able to have barbecues and sit out in the sunshine. We really enjoyed our stay.
