The Experience

A glorious estate with a main sleeping lodge, plus shepherd’s huts and treehouses – like summer camp, only for adults with children and/or dogs – designed for fun. Expect a striking simplicity with airy colours, white linen, padded bedheads, robes in sparkling bathrooms. Rooms are scattered about in pretty buildings on the hill, the suites altogether fancier with claw-foot baths in the room, huge beds, maybe a sofa or a wood-burner, too.

They spiral around a central lodge, where you can eat, drink and be merry. If the style is coolly contemporary, then the feel is cosy and informal, with lovely staff on hand to help. The big bar is the hub: sofas galore, cool colours, walls of glass that open onto a terrace, a funky wood-burner for winter nights, super food from classics to fine dining.

Borrow wellies (and a map) and set out to explore the 500-acre estate, return to a seafood feast at Hook, or a grand barbecue in summer.

We think you'll love

  • The fact that the whole place is so child and dog friendly – the vibe is utterly non-stuffy, buzzy and chilled
  • Filling up on a delicious, hefty breakfast then striding out around the Cotswolds – or visiting the deli of dreams in Broadway
  • Letting children and dogs let off steam around the estate, exploring woodlands, or taking them to the Cotswold Wildlife Park

Reviews

Becky, Bristol

We had a wonderful family pre-Christmas stay - complete with Christmas trees, misty mornings, roaring fires and plenty of good cheer. Striding out to walk off an epic breakfast, we visited Broadway Tower on a crisp sunny day and finished up pottering around beautiful Broadway and arming ourselves with delectable treats from the deli. Would love to come back in warmer weather to try out the outdoor 3 -course BBQ feast!

Ellen, Bristol

A wonderful wedding anniversary stay in the Shepherd's Huts. The bar and communal areas were a real highlight, being able to relax with the papers and an open fire. We loved the boot room, to be able to help yourself to a pair of wellies and a map and take a walk in the surrounding countryside. It's just a shame we didn't get to take advantage of the cinema on this trip - one for next time!

Location

The neighbourhood

The impressive 18th-century Capability Brown-inspired Broadway Tower is a short drive and has 200 acres to explore, a café/gift shop, deer park, and museum with roof platform. Broadway itself (a ten-minute drive or a longer scamper across fields) is one of the prettiest Cotswold villages with boutique shops, galleries, cafés and antique shops, plus the famous deli with gorgeous food to take home.
