The Experience

The interiors have been carefully designed to bring nature indoors so that you feel calmed – they’re like little retreats from the bustle of everyday life. Wooden panelling, comfy sofas, little dining areas and plenty of lovely books about the natural world complete the picture – lovely to sit and read here, glancing up through the sash windows to watch the deer grazing.

Bedrooms have an understated, almost monastic feel with generous soft lighting and brown velvet drapes, thick mattresses and crisp cotton; each have their own warm bathrooms with waffle robes and fluffy white towels. Adornments come as dried grasses in vases or the odd pottery bowl. All the units have their own nifty, streamlined kitchens – some in separate spaces and others open-plan, but all well equipped.

The grounds are yours to wander at will. You’ll find a picnic rug, flask, an OS map and binoculars so head out for the day and explore glorious countryside.

Location

The neighbourhood

The nearest pub is The Penny Bun, also owned by the estate and with the same ethos – organic, sustainable food with venison from the estate and vegetables from the walled garden. Ilkley is a ten-minute drive for an elegant afternoon tea at Bettys, a Michelin-starred restaurant and some good independent shops. Otley is a historic market town with cobbled streets and a folk festival in September.
