The Experience

Thread your way down the winding streets of St Davids, Britain’s tiniest city, to this sturdy stone cottage, one of three. It is the furthest from the road, the closest to the garden, and has the best views, across rooftops and distant hills to Ramsey Island, breeding ground of peregrines and seabirds.

Explore the architecturally fascinating 12th-century cathedral – one of Britain’s finest – tucked in a hollow beside the river. The Bishop’s Palace lies on the other bank, an atmospheric ruin in which Shakespeare’s plays are performed on summer nights.

Hop on a ferry to Ramsey Island from three miles down the road, walk a lazy mile to probe caves and rock pools at Caerfai Bay; surfers will head for Whitesands Bay just below and you can hire kayaks at Abereiddi’s Blue Lagoon. Wander to the pub for supper or fire up the barbecue in the garden on summer evenings.

Reviews

Tina, Chiddingfold

The cottage was delightful, very well equipped and cosy. It had a balcony from the main bedroom and a lovely shared garden with a great view where we saw glorious sunsets. It had everything we needed for a perfect week's stay.

Susan, Manchester

The perfect cottage, perfect location, perfect place. This cottage is everything you could wish for to make a stay in this gorgeous part of the world. Kitted with everything from a wood burner to feather pillows. Spotless, welcoming and even has that rare commodity parking. Whatever the weather it is really perfect. Beautiful garden and amazing accommodating owner. Just joyous.

Tim, Newbury

Location amazing, St David's is on your doorstep, then easy driving to many attractions across west Wales. This is one of three rentals in the same building, but the walls are thick so you don't hear your neighbours, with great views of the cathedral, away from the road and street noise. Lovely the shared garden, gets afternoon sunshine. The house has all you'll need, good kitchen with dishwasher, water / dryer, fridge and freezer. TV has Freeview and Netflix. Bedrooms are very comfortable and airy. One bathroom with good shower over bath. This is the perfect getaway in Wales

Beccy, Hampshire

After many weeks of being in lockdown it was absolutely wonderful to get away to the beautiful St Davids. We stayed in Bwthyn Lil with our two children (ages 10 and 8) and the space worked perfectly. We have stayed in Hamish and Linda's cottages for many years and they never ever disappoint - so beautifully decorated and to such a high standard. We were fortunate to enjoy some amazing weather - allowing us the opportunity to walk to the beach, go on some glorious walks along the pembrokeshire coastline and eat outside in the evenings in the beautiful garden! Highly recommend!

Peter, Bristol

We have been visiting St Davids for over 10 years and after discovering Bwthyn Lil if we can not stay here we re-plan our trip to ensure we can stay around availability. The property is full of character, wonderfully and tastefully appointed and always perfectly presented. The support and help from the owners is second to none and without question staying here has enhanced every trip we have made to St Davids. The views from the property never fail to impress and the property further benefits from off street parking. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Bwthyn Lil and the owners.

Location

The neighbourhood

The cottages are a minute’s walk from the centre of a city that is charmingly small and unashamedly old-fashioned. Discover craft shops, food shops, restaurants and pubs, including the Farmer's Arms on the same street. The 12th-century cathedral, the finest in Wales, hides down a hill, and wonderful beaches abound – Whitesands, Caerfai, Abereiddi. Coastal walks are a ten-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Hamish Elvidge

  • Whitesand Bay is a wonderful sandy beach within five minutes drive and is great for surfing and sandcastles!
  • St Davids Cathedral is the focal point of the city and must be visited!
  • Great restaurants( for example Morgans and Cwtch) are plentiful in St Davids and the surrounding area.
  • A trip around Ramsey Island cannot be missed, to see the seals and, hopefully dolphins!
  • Abereiddi and the Blue Lagoon create a very unqiue atmosphere.
  • Pothgain is a unique, beautiful harbour, which has a really good restaurant (The Shed) and pub (The Sloop)

Introducing

Hamish Elvidge

The owners are Linda and Hamish Elvidge, and Dawn Hughes is the meeter and greeter. A native of St Davids, she is friendly and informative, and fiercely proud of the three cottages she cleans and the garden she so meticulously tends.
