The Experience

Up a winding track is this 17th-century cottage with a Georgian extension. In the tiled reception area you’ll find a small bar with interesting wines and Welsh beers for sale along with local jams and soaps. A big guest sitting room has an open fire, books and magazines, a good selection of original art and inviting sofas. A delicious cooked breakfast awaits in the morning, with vegetarian and vegan options and freshly ground coffee. There are two dining rooms so you can choose to be sociable or a bit more private.

Alan is an ex-chef and will do supper – wholesome, home-cooked and as local or organic as possible. Otherwise there’s a pub less than a mile away for fairly decent grub. You sleep under pretty Welsh blankets in upstairs rooms with views – each has a little booklet with the history of the farm.

A gravelled area out the back has tables and chairs for sunny days.

Reviews

A most welcoming and comfortable place to stay with perfectly cooked breakfasts and fresh fruit. Well worth lingering here for a few days.

Diane, Walsall

This is an absolutely delightful B&B in the most gorgeous setting. When we arrived we were given a warm welcome and shown to our pretty and comfortable room. Alan is a wonderful host and he spent time with us to suggest great places to visit in this beautiful location. Each day we enjoyed freshly cooked breakfasts and thoughtfully prepared and delicious evening meals. Penrhiw Farm is a very special place which we would highly recommend and we cannot wait to return.

Julie-Marie, Wells

Penrhiw Farm is a great place to stay and explore the Pembrokeshire coastline. We wanted to stay for three nights but they could only fit us in for two as fully booked and having stayed there we can see why. Excellent, accommodation, food and hospitality, Alan’s breakfasts and suppers are delicious and we would not hesitate in recommending Penrhiw Farm for a short or long stay.

Diane and Lou, Bury St Edmunds

You get a real feeling of peace up here on this organic dairy farm, add to that great home-cooked food (breakfast and dinner), comfortable rooms and miles of wild coastline to explore and what's not to love? If you're passing through, think about stopping for a few days and letting the slow way of life seep in.

Location

The neighbourhood

The walking is spectacular. From Strumble Head (4 miles away) you can walk to Pwll Deri and back for a grand day out. Aberbach and Abermawr are about 5 miles away for glorious beaches which will be quieter than the more popular ones; Goodwick Moor nature reserve has a fine show of spring flowers and some interesting overwintering birds. Fishguard and the ferry to Ireland is about 15 minutes by car.

Local points of interest from Alan Latter

  • Visit the Last Invasion Tapestry gallery in Fishguard's Town Hall. Wales' answer to the Bayeux Tapestry depicting the last invasion of mainland Britain near Fishguard, by the French in 1979. A remarkable piece of work, full of history, humour, and colour.
  • Strumble head and the surrounding area. Beautiful, rugged, remote and unspoilt, with some excellent hiking trails adjacent to the lighthouse. The best one, is the short hike up to the top of Garn Fawr from the nearby parking area. Spectacular!!
  • Explore the World renowned Pembrokeshire Coast Path, through the UK's only coastal national park. Easily accessed from the B&B, explore this remote part of North Pembrokeshire. Late summer is great for seal and dolphin spotting.
  • There are some fabulous beaches in North Pembrokeshire from the busy beaches like Whitesands and Newport to the more secluded, like Abermawr and Aberbach, near the famous Melin Tregwynt. It's worth venturing off the beaten track to find your favourite.
  • Enjoy freshly landed seafood from the harbour towns of Lower Fishguard, Newport and Slova. Some of the best shellfish that Wales has to offer can be found in the waters off the Pembrokeshire Coast. Mrs Will the Fish and Walshie's offer seafood takeaways.
  • Try Coasteering! In a nutshell it is an all-in-one experience that treats the foreshore as an eco-adventure playground. It’s about rock-hopping, shore-scrambling, swell-riding, cave-exploring and, yes, cliff-jumping.

Introducing

Alan Latter

The farm is still very much a family affair. Alan's parents bought it in the 70s, they turned organic in the 90s and now sell their dairy to an organic collective, Calon Wen. A long restoration, mainly undertaken by Alan, turned the farmhouse into a B&B which they opened in March 2022. Alan, his sister (a vet) and his partner Philip live in the other part of the house.
