Our best dog-friendly hotels by the sea

There are fewer things dogs love more than frolicking on the beach: chasing balls, digging holes or taking swims in the sea. And when everyone’s worn out, nothing beats retreating a few steps to the comfort of good food and a comfortable bed at a gorgeous hotel.

We’ve rounded up five of our best dog-friendly hotels by the sea so that you can all enjoy a healthy dose of coastal fun.

1. Watergate Bay Hotel

Cornwall

Not only is this one of the most stylish dog-friendly hotels by the sea, it also overlooks one of the UK’s most stunning beaches. Watergate Bay beach welcomes dogs all throughout the year, and there’s over two miles of uninterrupted sand, sea and rock pools for them to enjoy.

The hotel itself is faultless, with beautiful views of the coast from almost every room and a lovely relaxed vibe that we all crave from a holiday. Watch waves lapping from The Living Space café, from the 25-metre infinity pool or on the terrace strewn with loungers. There’s a large ocean room with an open fire for those cosy days, a sauna and cliff-top hot tub for a bit of indulgence as well as a brilliant choice of restaurants serving decent food. Eat in the bar, at Zacry’s the grill or The Beach Hut – all are dog-friendly!

2. The Gallivant

Sussex

This cool little hotel stands across the road from Camber Sands, where five miles of pristine beach are home to kite surfers, beach cricketers and sun worshipers alike. It’s also dog-friendly all year round, but there are restrictions on some parts of the beach from May to September. Even then, your pooch will still have a mile of sand and dunes to roam free!

As dog-friendly hotels by the sea go, The Gallivant offers plenty to enjoy for all the family. A recent refurbishment has brought a stunning new look to every corner. Bedrooms, small and large, have been kitted out with stylish interiors: from statement headboards to kilim rugs and beautiful lamps. The garden rooms – heaven for hedonists – feature double-ended baths in the room and small decks in the garden, where you’ll also find a massage hut and deckchairs in summer.

4. The Old Coastguard

Cornwall

Visit during Sunday lunch hours and you’ll instantly know this is one of the most welcoming dog-friendly hotels by the sea. Hungry owners eat their delicious meals, whilst content pooches rest under the table after a long coastal walk. The hotel stands by the coastal path on the way to Mousehole, one of Cornwall’s nicest villages, and just down the road from quaint Newlyn.

The hotel prides itself on being good value and casual, with relaxed staff and great seasonal food on offer. The main dining room is rustic and homely, with bold colours and local artwork adorning the walls. Whilst next door, you can enjoy drinks in one of the fabulously re-upholstered armchairs or on a sofa overlooking uninterrupted sea views. In summer, guests spill out onto the pretty lawn or out on the deck. Up to two dogs are welcomed in rooms, and staff are always on hand with treats.
