There are few pleasures so quintessentially English as an afternoon spent in a country garden. We’ve shortlisted seven of our favourite gardens in Somerset. After receiving a host of Sussex travel tips, we headed over to find out if the county could break our Bristolian habit of heading west on holiday. We found charming towns that wore their coastal setting with style, independent shops scattered in Brighton’s backstreets, gardens blooming with creativity, innovative winemakers, breath-taking cliffs and a history of art and literature still inspiring a new generation. We were away for three and a half days, but could have spent several times that exploring such a diversity of culture and landscapes.
