The Experience
Two 18th-century buildings tucked away behind a grey gate door in the historic village of Bois-Sainte-Marie which each summer hosts a music festival for concerts in its Romanesque church. Two of the bedrooms and a spacious sitting room are in the cottage and a third is in the main house where the owners also live. All are individually themed, extremely comfortable and have en suite shower rooms.
The shared sitting room is filled with interesting art, good antiques and plenty of books. The garden is an absolute delight, beautifully tended with trimmed box hedges, vines and many roses. Find a secluded spot for reading or dreaming, take a cooling dip in the saltwater pool, stroll around the village, explore the church.
Breakfast (in the garden on warm and dry days) on fresh breads and croissants, locally sourced jams, honey and yogurt. Dinner is available at weekends with a bit of notice, starting with an aperitif. Very civilised B&B.

Exquisite. Gilles, James, the house, the gardens, the ambience, the food and Mon Dieu, the decor. Everything is beautifully maintained, and attention to detail is just perfect. So picturesque, you will not want to leave. If you are looking to stay in Burgundy, do not waste your time looking anywhere else, you truly will not be disappointed. Thank you Gilles & James for a wonderful stay. John & Nicola

This is a very special place. Our hosts welcomed us into the property and we received such a warm welcome. The accommodation is just beautiful. Gorgeous bed, stunning furniture, even the shower gel says luxury. The grounds and beautiful pool are truly lovely. We had charcuterie in the evening with wine and a delicious breakfast the next day. We only wished we were staying longer than just the one night. We would return in a heartbeat.

Location
The neighbourhood
Food and wine are the big priorities in this deeply rural part of France. Just up the road is La Ferme des Blancs where Charolais cows and rare breed pigs roam free. There is a farm shop so you can buy the meat. It's 3km to Gibles for groceries, bread and a small restaurant, otherwise La Clayette (5km) has a wide choice of restaurants and shops. James and Gilles can organise experiences for you.
Local points of interest from James Auclair
- The ‘Maison d’invités’ cottage with space for 5 guests is available to rent from 2 nights minimum (from €300 per night) – 2 double rooms, 1 kitchen + living room with extra single bed.
- The property has many areas to relax in the garden as well as a pool that isn’t overlooked in the shade of century-old trees.
- Each summer in the first week of August, there are chamber music concerts in the very beautiful church in Bois-Sainte-Marie.
- Trips to vineyards in the Mâconnais, the Côte Chalonnaise and the Brionnais can be organised on request.
- Massages can also be booked.

Introducing
James Auclair
James and Gilles are both artists and this is reflected in their beautiful house and garden. They clearly love looking after guests, cooking and gardening and they've thought of everything to make your stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible.
We have just completed a 10 day road trip of Burgundy and the Loire and the gite at Les Tillets was by far our favourite place to stay. The gite, quite quirky, had everything we needed and the beautiful garden is the perfect retreat to kick back and relax. Gilles and James are the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble. They served a wonderful dinner one night and fresh fruit, pastries etc each morning. This is THE perfect place to relax and immerse yourself in real France, can't recommend highly enough.
