The Experience
The secluded old buildings house two owner families, a restaurant, several guest rooms and 15 tons of ever-present live fish. Fishing folk gather on Sundays to catch trout in the spring water that feeds the ponds; groups come for speciality lunches. Meals are served alongside your hosts and fellow guests around one big table, and may include trout terrine, home-reared salmon, a neighbour’s potatoes, wild asparagus in buttery sauce, cinnamon custard. For breakfast share brioche, baguettes, croissants, yogurt, fruit salad, cereals, apple juice and their own jams and honey. Created in an old mill 40 years ago, the bedrooms under the eaves are mostly small-windowed, simply furnished and prettily decorated in rustic or ‘grandmother’ style. Other rooms are in the newly built half-timbered cottage across the drive. At one end of the shop – packed with cottage-industry goodies (charcuterie, honey, jams, wine and champagne) – is a wide floor of thick glass under which immense fish can be seen swimming to and fro between the water tanks. A pony wanders freely in the grounds. Wonderful food and service – and good English spoken.

This was our second visit to Le Moulin & it was every bit as nice as our first visit about 15 years ago. We had a spacious and very comfortable room in the Annex, which has three rooms, a well-stocked kitchen and lovely terrace. We had a delicious fish dinner, cooked by Sandrine, with three other couples the first night and a similar four course meal the second night, on our own in the kitchen annex. Both were superb. Beautiful grounds, quiet, peaceful, calm. Highly recommend.

We returned here five years after our previous stay, on both occasions breaking a journey the length of France in two. This time we stayed in a family room in the cottage, which was very comfortable. We ate delicious, home cooked-food (including chicken for the non-fish eaters in the family) and were looked after beautifully; Madame was extremely thoughtful and kind. It was a challenge to wrench ourselves away from the incredible breakfast to get back on the road. Highly recommended. PS. Also recommended is the Ratafia drink which is very tasty and for sale there...

- You could visit Troyes 23km from us, which is a medieval town very well restaured and travel in the past and become a notable, an artisan, a trader or a church man from the 14th century . Walk in the pedestrian streets and discover all the wooden pan house
- Discover the little town of Chaource, 30km from us, where a beautiful church is waiting for surprising you with its crypt and statue of burial of christ made by the Master of Chaource, famous sculptor from the 16th century, in the middle of nature.

Our first time staying here, and it won’t be the last! Fabulous old mill and Grounds, accommodation very comfortable and the highlight was the Home cooked evening meal, watercress soup, fresh brown trout, cheese and Dessert with wine, best meal of our four week holiday and only 22euros. The Madame works very hard looking after the trout and her visitors. It is very near to Troyes and the motorway and a great stop off heading North or south.
