The Experience

Relax on your leafy private patio, sunbathe, swim, play boules or simply enjoy being on holiday – this is a peaceful place to come out of season, with a wealth of gorgeous towns and villages to explore. Your gîte, one of ten, has a super sitting room with high ceilings, a well-equipped kitchen, and you’re left a welcome bottle of wine.

Two bedrooms (both can be doubles or twins) are sunny with good beds and there are two neat-as-a-pin bathrooms. Pop into the village for breakfast’s croissants and baguettes: it’s a two-minute stroll and a lively place with café/restaurant and a Sunday market. Hire bikes and cycle the tow path of the Canal du Midi; take a picnic to the beach at Gruissan (35km); explore the beautiful Abbaye de Fontfroide; discover medieval Carcassonne.

Pick up delicious local produce at one of many good markets nearby and bring it back to sizzle on the barbecue while you open a bottle of regional wine. This is a happy place, beloved by guests.

Reviews

Domaine de Puychêne is a lovely grand old winemaker's property, with sunny and well-thought-out guest apartments, each with their own outdoor area cleverly woven into a garden that is nothing short of fabulous. Come here to visit the sights, taste the wine, see the Canal du Midi and pop down to the Mediterranean. Heaven!

We have been here three times and plan on returning again! The accommodation is excellent with everything you need; the owners are charming, friendly and so knowledgeable about the area, and the village is conveniently located for exploring from Beziers to the Pyrenees, and the national parks of the Grands Causses, Haut-Languedoc and Corbieres.

Jim, Nottingham

This is a wonderful place with excellent hosts, who have thought of everything you could want. The rooms are spacious and fully equipped, and it’s conveniently located for village shops and local restaurants. Suitable for all ages.

Chris, London

A lovely place in a lovely place. Philippe and Véronique were consummate hosts and we - a family with young children - had a great time. We wanted to stay longer and next time we intend to.

Clem, Herts

This is a very special place. We spent a week with our two young children at Domaine de Puychene and it ticked all the boxes for a perfect French holiday. The surrounding countryside is spectacular, and we loved visits to the beaches and nearby villages and restaurants. Our children loved making friends and playing on the grounds, and we enjoyed dinner with our fellow guests and hosts. A very memorable family holiday.

Location

The neighbourhood

Bikes can be hired locally and with the Canal du Mini only 1km away there are plenty of walks and rides on the doorstep. Bring binoculars – birdwatchers love it here. The Leucate Plage is a lovely day out by the sea and you're only half an hour from canoeing, wine tasting, little villages and excellent markets. Carcassonne is just under an hour – a gem.
