The Experience
Thick walls, stone-covered passages and ancient staircases show off the building’s age and the higgledy-piggledy layout is charming – three buildings wrapped around a courtyard and hugging the château. Downstairs find the dining room, then it’s up stone steps to bedrooms and suites – all different, some with proper sitting rooms, another is child-friendly, all with air conditioning and smart bathrooms.
Bed linen is made in Morocco, and views from a height are over rooftops to the hills beyond, except La Provençale which looks over the courtyard below. Breakfast is mainly served outside – croissants, pains au chocolat, seasonal fruits and homemade jams. There’s an easy feel wherever you go, from driftwood cow horns to vintage objects.
Discover a beautiful stone jacuzzi in the garden, with a wall of hanging plants for privacy, or wander into Uzès (3km) for restaurants and markets.

We've been in touch with Eric and he's very glad to hear you found your bedroom and bathroom excellent, but sad you experienced some issues with entry and breakfast. You had been sent a code to open the door and instructions to call Stephane (who is not Eric's son!) 30 minutes before your arrival time so they’re sorry they didn’t make that clearer. As for breakfast, all the pastries are served hot along with fruit, yogurts and chocolate buns, so they’re sorry you didn’t enjoy it. We hope you have happier stays in future.

Location
The neighbourhood
Uzès is a circular medieval town with a large Wednesday and Saturday market, numerous restaurants and cafés, an arthouse cinema, theatre and a Sunday flea market, along with book and clothes shops galore. Recommended places to eat are Le Terroir in the central square and Comptoir du 7 in the centre. Ask the owners about their favourites.
Introducing
Eric & Armelle Berthoud
Eric and Armelle bought the property in 2022 and have furnished it completely. They run another B&B in Guéreins, Le Château des Charmes, but are around from October to April – in summer you’re looked after by kindly Stéphane who lives 20 minutes away but is always available, knows the area well and speaks good English.
We arrived to find the residence locked with no one there at the designated arrival time after a long drive. We phoned to find they had no record of our booking despite our receiving confirmation emails. We managed to contact the son of the owner who let us in. The room was extremely comfortable and clean and well equipped with excellent bathroom as well. The breakfast on the other hand was appalling. The bread was stale and the coffee was undrinkable. The son seemed to be trying his best to look after us but at that price you would expect to enjoy a delicious French breakfast.
