The Experience

A gentle place to stay beneath the wind-singing umbrella pines, your little holiday home is the ground floor of the owners’ house yet you can be as private as you wish: there’s a pretty terrace and garden just for you, and even your own drive for the car. The Mortiers have done a beautiful, simple conversion using soft ochre-limed walls, lamps, tables and rugs from Morocco (they lived there for 30 years), wooden furniture and an excellent big shower room. It is all high quality, there’s plenty of storage and no clutter. Cooks will love the battery of equipment in the little green and yellow kitchen; simple white crockery decks the old farmhouse table; the sofabed in the living room hides behind a curtain at bedtime; the terrace is perfect for morning shade, the hammock for sunset vigils. Walk or bicycle out into the quiet countryside where grapes and olives grow, take the children to the nearby ‘Ecology’ centre or leave the car in Jacou and catch the tram to young and lively Montpellier for a shot of culture or shopping. A perfect marriage of city and country living.

Reviews

We spent 2 weeks in Plo Midi when the weather was still averaging 23 degrees and rain fell only twice. We chose not to hire a car but Patrick kindly met us at the nearest tram station on our arrival and drove us to the airport on our departure. Throughout our stay Patrick and Yvonne were charming and helpful hosts. The gite is well equipped (everything works!), clean and comfortable. Fresh linen and towels are provided each week. Our daughter joined us for a few nights and that worked well with the comfortable sofa-bed. Plo Midi is a nice place to stay and Prades an all encompassing town

Bernard

The gite was quiet and peaceful. It was in a good location for exploring the surrounding area including Montpellier. Patrick and Yvonne were extremely welcoming hosts and were happy to give advice and recommendations where needed.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Yvonne & Patrick Mortier

  • You're a 30-minute drive from Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, one of the most beautiful villages of France, and the Abbey of Gellone, along with the nearby Pont du Diable were designated UNESCO World Heritages sites
  • Grotte des Demoiselles: this breathtaking adventure will take you through caverns with stunning giant stalactites and stalagmites, translucent draperies in the impressive cathedral cavern, the "Mother-Child" nature-made sculpture and the organ pipes
  • Pont du Gard: a masterpiece of Antiquity and nowadays a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site, this impressive Roman aqueduct bridge over the waters of the river Gardon has three storeys of arches and forms a magnificent symbiosis with its lush green setting.
  • Aigues-Mortes displays a particularly well-preserved range of architecture of a real medieval fortress with its ramparts, fortified doors, twenty towers and wall-walk. The Constance Tower offers a beautiful view of the vast expanses of the Camargue.
  • The Navacelles cirque, a listed Grand National Site, is an impressive natural amphitheater with its tall limestone cliffs. At its centre, the picturesque village of Navacelles is particularly photogenic with its waterfall and spectacular environment.
