The Experience

A village house with lots of light and space. Find high ceilings, terracotta tiles and golden beams – plenty of books, sculptures and rugs create a homely, but not cluttered, feel. Bedrooms (the main one with air conditioning) have the best linen and are soft and fresh; the bathroom has a power shower and white robes. The triple room is only available when taken together with the double room – excellent for families.

Pay extra for a generous breakfast at one long table – fruit, breads and pastries fresh from the bakery – or sleep in and wander down to the village to eat later. There’s a lovely, relaxed feel here so you can feel very much at home.

Spend time in the pretty garden, use the summer kitchen by the pool, cool off with a few lengths on hot days – the pool is all yours, or sit under the shade of the covered veranda with a glass of something cool and a good book. You’re surrounded by greenery and the atmosphere is tranquil – just the ticket.

Reviews

What delightful people with a house that just opens its doors wide to welcome you. The garden is a joy. Peaceful, totally private and lush with greenery and flowers. This is a real Chambre d'Hôte, genuine, unpretentious and perfect for a real holiday..

A beautiful house with fantastic pool and garden; the perfect place to relax and unwind. The surrounding location offers an abundance of activities from wine tasting to tree trekking and canoeing. The hosts, Wendy and Derek, provide an excellent breakfast and are incredibly committed to making your stay as enjoyable as possible. The rooms are both spotless and spacious, and provide everything necessary for a comfortable stay. A thank you to our hosts, we had a wonderful holiday!

J&H, Manchester

A wonderful place. After a short drive from Beziers airport we were relaxing by the pool. Our bedroom & en suite bathroom were large, spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast, outside on the terrace, was delightful; fresh, healthy and so much of it! Wendy & Derek were great hosts; friendly, welcoming and helpful, but also giving us the privacy to enjoy our stay undisturbed. It was a pleasure to meet them both. Laurens was the perfect location to strike out and experience the area. Our holiday was made quite magical by our stay at Maison des Artist. We‘d love to return. Thank you both.

Catherine, Bath

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maison des Artists, the house is airy and colourful, our room had all we needed, and the pool and garden are delightful, both during the day and night! Wendy and Derek were wonderful hosts, very helpful when needed but also giving their guests space. They were also very obliging enabling our son who was working in France to come and stay for a couple of nights. Breakfast was delicious too. The village is full of character, there is a fantastic, reasonably priced local restaurant with delicious wine. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

steve, rochdale

Wendy and derick are perfect hosts; available but retiring to give you a perfect stay. They know their france well and can share their thoughts entertainigly. The pool and garden have been put together with care and love. The agricultural traffic at the front can be mostly excluded by the well restored window double glazing. The breakfasts , outside , are great . the house is well named ; enjoy the art

Location

The neighbourhood

Set off on lovely walks through the verdant countryside, swim in the river, taste wines and have tours – this is excellent winegrowing country. There's a good farm shop and winery in the village, walk to the local stores or drive ten minutes into town for a supermarket. Béziers is the nearest train station and airport, a 45-minute drive, and you're close to Montpellier and Pézenas.

Local points of interest from Wendy Ogg

  • We are easy-going and enjoy guests coming to our house to experience all that the South of France has to offer. We've been doing B&B for years. Many guests have come to house hunt and end up buying here in the village! It's possible to book mid week.
  • We offer luxury B&B with exclusive use of the pool at all times. Breakfast is optional, there is a summer kitchen and BBQ by the pool. We have many ‘chill out’ areas in the garden or at the pool, lovely by day and candle-light in the evening.
  • Languedoc is the largest producer of wine in the world. Laurens is a wine-producing village situated between mountains and the Mediterranean, in some of France's most beautiful scenery. Plenty to explore here with amenities a short walk from the house.
  • Some of the best beaches in south of France are 18 miles to the south of us. Water sports are catered for and you'll find a large range of excellent cafes and seafood restaurants. Our property is not suitable for guests with extreme mobility issues.
  • Activities throughout the year, monthly jazz concerts in the house and garden, wine tasting, château exploring, markets - Pézenas, Clermont-l’Hérault, beaches, golf, canoeing, village fêtes, Béziers Feria, horse riding, hill walking, caving and karting.
  • Getting here is easy, lots of cheap flights from UK to Béziers all year, also to Perpignan, Carcassonne, Nîmes, Montpellier. All these cities are fabulous to visit. You can also travel on the excellent TGV train from London right down to Béziers.

Introducing

Wendy Ogg

Artist Derek (you’ll see his watercolours on the walls) and designer Wendy (who organises monthly jazz concerts) are a thoroughly easy-going couple. Well travelled, they have lived here for over 20 years and are thoroughly integrated into the community. Weather permitting, you'll find them in their gorgeous garden with their friendly dog.
