The Experience
Slip from the bustling street through a quiet passageway into this perfectly located 18th-century house. The owners have undertaken a careful renovation, removing walls, opening up the space and painting the interior in warm hues of blush pink, sage green and terracotta – a legacy of their eight years in Marrakesh.
Three bedrooms sleep six; the master – up a nested staircase to the second floor – has an open en suite with a bath under the eaves, while the two first-floor bedrooms (a double and a twin) share a bathroom with a shower.
Downstairs is a cosy living room (find one upstairs as well) for an aperitif, and a snug kitchen. Rainy days are well catered for with board games, books and fibre optic WiFi. A dining room with a big wooden table seats six, and doors from here and the kitchen lead to a shared leafy courtyard for al fresco meals.

Location
The neighbourhood
The Château Royal d'Amboise is a stone's throw away, and the legendary Bigot pâtisserie just around the corner. Leonardo da Vinci's last home, Le Clos Lucé, is five minutes on foot. Chez Bruno, three minutes' walk, is wonderful for lunch or dinner. Canoe under Chenonceau's arches, visit Chaumont-sur-Loire's garden festival (April to November), or stroll along the Loire – just 100 metres away.
Local points of interest from Julie & Florent
- Enjoy dinner or drinks at the Guinguette, very close by on the edge of the Loire. River views and a good atmosphere are guaranteed. Very pleasant when it’s good weather (open spring, summer, and some of the autumn).
- Have dinner at Chez Bruno at the foot of the Château! Experience local French cuisine.
- Have tea and an excellent pastry at Bigot, just 2 minutes from the house next to the Château Royal.
- Take a trip on the river Cher by canoe/kayak around the Château de Chenonceau to get a wonderful view of the castle as you pass under its arches – what a moment! Depending on the weather, you could also have a picnic or even a swim.
- Take the Loire à Vélo cycle route for lovely bike trips along the river, from Amboise as far as Vouvray or Rochecorbon, or even Tours. Break the journey up with stops at wine caves, such as Mondomaine.
- Visit the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, a wonderful site of art and culture.
