The Experience

This fine traditional townhouse hides behind vast cedars on the edge of the village. Behind its walls lie warmth, exuberance, good humour, windows flung open to let in light and fresh air, and Jean-Lou’s vibrant paintings. All feels friendly and unpretentious: a den-like sitting room, a comfy leather sofa, wonderful books, an open fire. Two bedrooms are in the main house, two are accessed via the studio, heaving with paintings and brushes. All this and a charming garden, throngs of fruit trees, a few loitering hens and, best of all, table d’hôtes at which food and wine flow. B&B at its best.

Reviews

Olivia and Paul, Oxford

For all the reasons stated by previous reviewers, this is an excellent place for an overnight stop, in our case en route to the ferry at Caen. We received the warmest welcome, slept in a comfortable bedroom, and enjoyed delicious food and wine in the company of the charming and interesting hosts. It was a pleasure to stay in this traditional family house, and we hope to return another year.

Sheila, London

We first stayed with Jean-Lou and Martine about 15 years ago and have been back twice since then. We cannot recommend Le Moutier highly enough: an oasis just off the river road of house, garden and tall trees, large comfortable rooms, and generous, gracious hospitality. Superb meals are prepared by Martine, Jean-Lou makes sure your glass is never empty and conversations are both fascinating, good-humoured and bi-lingual. Not to be missed.

David, London

A beautiful and very comfortable home and Martine & Jean-Lou could not have been more welcoming. The best nights sleep of our two weeks in France - and also one of the best evening meals. We will definitely return.

Roger & Sue, Alton

We have been coming to Le Moutier for over 25 years and it is our favourite chambre d'hote . Jean-Lou and Martine are lovely friendly hosts and Martine is a superb cook. Jean-Lou's paintings are on display in the house. Le Moutier is in lovely surroundings and convenient to visit Loire chateaux. At approximately 31/2 hours from ferry at Ouistreham it is an excellent stopover point.

Colin & Eve, Bury St Edmunds

Superb B & B with delicious meals - have stayed several times when making a journey through France. Hosts are so welcoming and friendly. Paintings by Jean-Lou and wonderful cooking by Martine who will always share her recipes.
