The Experience
The smell of honeysuckle as you swim in the pool, a glimpse through the orchard to the vineyards beyond, a spin in the château-dotted countryside in a gleaming Morgan 4/4. What more? A welcome basket of homemade jam and Bordeaux, sweeping gardens with badminton and boules, fresh baguette deliveries. And friendly British owners who welcome families, can make breakfast and special dinners, and offer classic car tours. For this quiet hamlet – near Cognac, La Rochelle, the Atlantic beaches – sits in inspiring scenery. These two holiday cottages, set within the grounds of a former Cognac Domaine, are all very homely and British behind their stone walls and sky-blue shutters: checked fabrics, pine furniture, excellent kitchens, good reading lamps, books, games, DVDs. Plump down in Rose Cottage on leather sofas under a cathedral ceiling; sleep beneath beams on super comfortable beds. Drift out to your wisteria-covered terrace – overlooking the lily pond on one side, opening to your own walled garden on the other – then take a dip in that heated pool, shared by both cottages. Or do as the cats do and stretch out for a snooze.

Lyn and Graham were extremely welcoming and helpful hosts - and we had a fun ride in the Morgan! The cottage was very well equipped in pretty grounds - we particularly enjoyed relaxing by the sparkling pool. We also enjoyed meals out in Cognac (20 mins drive away), drove to Royan/St Georges de Didonne (60 mins drive) and particularly loved Ile de Re (1.5hr drive).

We recently returned from a two week holiday, staying in Rose Cottage. We cannot recommend the accommodation highly enough. Both Rose and Manor Cottages are set in the most picturesque gardens and share a lovely outdoor pool and sun area. Rose Cottage proved to be a very comfortable and well equipped place to stay. From the décor to the quality of the sheets and towels, everything is done to the highest standards. There is SO much to do in this area of South West France - you are spoilt for choice. We would return to La Rose des Vents in a heartbeat!

Our stay was absolutely fantastic. The cottage was immaculate and the swimming pool a great place to chill during the heatwave that we had. The Cognac area has some very scenic drives in our Morgan, and Lyn and Graham were able to advise us on where to visit.

Location
A wonderful escape from it all. Rose Cottage is a characterful place and Lyn and Graham really helped to make our stay with tips for things to do (and delicious apricot jam). We loved the chance to eat all meals outside and the stunning pool was a great spot to relax after days exploring the Cognac area. The Charente is not an area massively frequented by tourists and we were able to enjoy days out in Cognac (excellent tour of the castle and Baron Otard cognac House), Rochefort (surprisingly interesting rope factory), Jarnac (electric biking, kayaking and beautiful golf course) and Saintes.
