The Experience
The smell of honeysuckle as you swim in the pool, a glimpse through the orchard to the vineyards beyond, a spin in the château-dotted countryside in a gleaming Morgan 4/4. What more? A welcome basket of homemade jam and Bordeaux, sweeping gardens with badminton and boules, fresh baguette deliveries. And friendly British owners who welcome families, can make breakfast and special dinners, and offer classic car tours. For this quiet hamlet – near Cognac, La Rochelle, the Atlantic beaches – sits in inspiring scenery. These two holiday cottages, set within the grounds of a former Cognac Domaine, are all very homely and British behind their stone walls and sky-blue shutters: checked fabrics, pine furniture, excellent kitchens, good reading lamps, books, games, DVDs. Plump down in Rose Cottage on leather sofas under a cathedral ceiling; sleep beneath beams on super comfortable beds. Drift out to your wisteria-covered terrace – overlooking the lily pond on one side, opening to your own walled garden on the other – then take a dip in that heated pool, shared by both cottages. Or do as the cats do and stretch out for a snooze.

We went over to France for the Circuit des Remparts classic car racing event in Angouleme and stayed at La Rose Des Vents for a week. Lyn and Graeme are great car enthusiasts and took care off all arrangements as well as organising trips to Cognac houses as a part of our package. We had a great time, organisation was excellent, the cottage was well appointed, gardens and the pool are really lovely and all very private. Lyn and Graeme could not have been more helpful and their knowledge of the area having lived there a while was really helpful. We had a great time.

We had a fantastic time at this idyllic hideaway, lots of lazy days spent by the heated pool, great day trips to the nearby towns and beautiful beaches, and the fantastic bonus of a ride in one of the Morgans through the surrounding countryside and vineyards. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts Lynne and Graham who were always on hand with restaurant recommendations or ideas for nearby days out when the weather wasn't ideal. Our two boys had plenty of room to explore and we had plenty of time to relax, the perfect family holiday!

Had a wonderful two week stay at La Rose des Vents. A perfect place to get away from it all, in complete comfort. The pool area was fantastic - there was always a choice of sun or shade available throughout the day; the house was well equipped and has great privacy. Lyn and Graham were lovely hosts and their welcome dinner was a perfect antidote to the six hour drive from Cherbourg. Eric's bread van came to supply us with fresh bread and croissants each morning "sauf le mercredi et le dimanche" and I enjoyed runs and walks on the local paths through vineyards and sunflowers. Truly lovely.

We had a truly relaxing stay at Rose Cottage with our two children aged three and five. The Peek's have created a French country idyll and their gardens and swimming pool are stunning. Having helpful hosts on the grounds who spoke English and could recommend places of interest for our one week holiday was invaluable. There is so much to do for children, a car is vital though. The icing on the cake was the ride in the open-top Morgan - one fantastic memory none of us will ever forget. Highly recommended for families of all ages and/or couples who want a quiet getaway.

Stayed at Rose Cottage for the Rallye des Charentes which I would highly recommend. Lyn and Graham Peek made us very welcome and id everything possible to make our week memorable.
