The Experience

On the southern slopes of the Luberon, surrounded by exotic gardens and 20 acres of vines, lies this big renovated farmhouse. Owned by Brits but with a real French feel, it’s a place to fall in love with; French windows open onto terraces, rooms are flooded with light, its furnishings comfortable but not precious. What with lawns, trees and towering bamboo (obscuring the discreet neighbour) you could happily stay put all day, playing pétanque and swimming laps in the huge pool, but you’re only 3km from characterful Grambois; pick up the morning’s baguettes or join the old boys at Café Dol for a coffee and pizza. Wander through the markets in lovely Louramin and La Tour d’Aigues, then bring everything back to the amazing kitchen, with its Lacanche range, marble counters and long table. An elegant wrought-iron handrail sweeps you up to the second salon and four bedrooms (two en suite), all with lots of light and views. Beams are chunky, windows are shuttered, cotton sheets are dried outside and smell of lavender and rosemary. Walk on the Luberon, visit Aix en Provence and dine, locally, in Cadenet.

Prepare to be entranced by wide southerly views across vineyards and rolling hills to distant Mt Victoire. What a beautiful large pool, complete with children's paddling area. Shady trees, lavender beds and vineyards . The house is sun-filled and comfortably furnished without being overly precious - perfect for a relaxing family holiday. The perfect quiet rural place for holiday get-togethers.

Fabulous family holiday at Le Sautaire. The house has everything you need from great swimming pool, well stocked kitchen and plenty of room for adults and children plus friends. We had a wonderful holiday.

Julia, Leeds

Beautiful location for large family accommodation. We were 6 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of space. The large pool was well used and we appreciated the three different areas with seating for eight inside and out.

We - 4 adults and 4 children aged 5-8 – spent a wonderful week at Le Sautaire. The house is beautiful with vast grounds, views in all directions and activity for every time of day. The pool is perfect for serious swimming, games or lounging in sun or shade. Cooking is enjoyable, a range cooker, a gas BBQ and ample space to chat to the chefs with drink in hand. Bedrooms are spacious. Shuttered windows kept out the high summer heat. The location is unbeatable to explore this wonderful part of Provence. We would not hesitate to return to Le Sautaire or to recommend this fantastic house.

Amy, Cambridgeshire

We stayed here with friends at the end of September for 4 nights. In total, 4 adults and 4 children (ages 5, 3, 1.5 and 1 year) stayed. Le Sautaire was the perfect place for us and we absolutely loved our relaxing stay there! The kids particularly loved exploring and playing ‘hide and seek’ in the lovely big garden, which we found to be quite child-friendly. 2 baby cots and high chairs were provided and there is also an adjoining shallow baby pool next to the main swimming pool, making this place very convenient for staying with young children. In short, we’d definitely stay here again!

Our third visit to Le Sautaire; as wonderful as ever. We love the location, the views, the spaciousness of the house and the huge pool.We always choose to take the 20 minute walk each morning up to Grambois to the friendly boulangerie. Similarly the cave at Moulin du Pas where the excellent local wine, vin en vrac, is just E2.25 per litre is a great favourite. Jenny always provides plenty of local information and there is no shortage of good restaurants for lunch or dinner in the lovely little towns and villages; if you can drag yourself away from the pool or the terraces of the house that is!

Michael, Chipping Campden

Its heaven in earth! Great feelings from morning to night. Amazing house, great Kitchen and what a stove! I’m a cooker so... Had an amazing time in the Kitchen! The owners are kind and more than friendly, really nice people. You feel like you would love to stay with them at the house and cook a dinner in the outside terrace for everybody! The sunsets... Well, this is just the lovely time of the day... But you must try in person! Lovely house! I will come back very soon...

Roberta, Rio de Janeiro

Lovely peaceful and comfortable villa in an unspoiled part of Provence. We had a great holiday with our family which included a toddler and a baby. The ground space downstairs was ideal for them to wander in and out of to find shade though there was plenty of shade from the mature trees in the garden . The pool was perfect - large enough for a swim for the adults - and included a superb toddler section which was in the shade. The area has plenty of interesting places to visit. The owners information pack which includes places of interest and restaurants nearby was very informative.

Local points of interest from Jenny Sweeney

  • Throw open your bedroom shutters and see the outline of Cézanne’s Monte Sainte Victoire against a blue sky, looking across lawn, vines and wooded hills
  • Which market today? Buy vegetables, cheeses, saucisson, pottery, presents for home at the villages along the Luberon, a market for every day of the week.
  • Savour elegant Provencal food at Les Tilleuls, just ten-minutes’ walk away, matching the two Michelin star restaurants each 20 minutes’ drive away or choose from our list of recommended restaurants, at all prices.
  • Stroll through vineyards: learn about grapes and terroir at Chateau La Dourgonne, wander Chateau Lacoste’s sculpture park, finding sculptures in the woodland by Frank Gerhy, Andy Goldsworthy, Francoise Bourgeois and more – and enjoy the wine!
  • Children will love the space to run around in the garden, the large pool, with a baby pool for littles, table tennis, volley ball and boules, all available. The best ice cream parlour in the world is only a short drive away.
  • Relax - in sun or shade, lounge by the pool, find a quiet spot in the mature gardens, watch the sun set from the west terrace, see a sky full of stars.
