The Experience
A place of legend old and new, L’Hôtel is where Oscar Wilde died destitute in 1900 and where interesting people still flock. The remarkable circular six-floor atrium is gorgeous and original works of art hang in Jacques Garcia’s award-winning decor – Napoleon III-style heavy hangings, rich colours, swags, furbelows and ornate mirrors that give depth to small spaces – and every detail is a study in opulence.
Each bedroom, small or large, is a jewel box of style. One on the ground floor has its own terrace and one upstairs a balcony, but all are supremely comfortable with plenty of chocolates and snacks. You can order room service or nip down to the breakfast room or bar if you want more space. Downstairs find a little pool and steam room which you can book by the hour should you want privacy.
Wake to organic eggs, granola, pancakes, bruschetta with mozzarella, smoked salmon, pastries and good coffee then set off to discover Paris.

Local points of interest from Joe Setchell
- In the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, L’Hotel sits among Left Bank galleries, antique dealers, boutiques and perfumeries — Paris at its most artistic, intimate and quietly glamorous.
- The Louvre is around 5 minutes on foot, just across the Seine. Wander past galleries, bookshops and café terraces en route to one of the world’s greatest museums.
- Musée d’Orsay is a beautiful 10 minute stroll away, home to Monet, Renoir, Degas and Van Gogh — with the river, bridges and Left Bank views as part of the journey.
- Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots are moments away, perfect for coffee, people-watching and pretending, quite reasonably, that you are writing a novel.
- The boutiques and perfumeries of Saint-Germain are on your doorstep, from storied maisons to small, quietly chic finds tucked along the surrounding streets.
- For Emily in Paris devotees, Café de la Nouvelle Mairie is nearby by taxi or Metro — a charming Left Bank spot recognisable from the series and worth a little detour.

We stayed at L’Hotel in March and absolutely loved it. The location in Saint-Germain is perfect — close to the Seine, galleries, cafés and boutiques, but the hotel itself feels wonderfully tucked away and intimate. It has so much character and history, with a romantic, slightly theatrical atmosphere that makes it feel very special. The room was beautiful, the team were charming and welcoming, and it was the perfect base for a spring stay in Paris. A gorgeous, memorable hotel with real soul. We’d happily return.
