The Experience

The high walls and antique door of this 17th-century fortified farmhouse protect a courtyard where pots, bougainvillea and shutters create a harmonious atmosphere. Inside all is full of colour and family history. The fine big dining room opens onto the orange grove, its table and Moroccan lights for summer suppers, and there’s a fireplace for winter evenings.

The library has a large collection of books in English and Italian and there are interesting pictures and objects which reflect the family’s worldwide travels. Bedrooms are light and spacious, the kitchen has everything you need for cooking but you can also hire a cook.

Join in with harvesting the olives in October, find a quiet spot to sit and read in the gardens, float in the big pool, play tennis, revel in the peace or head for the coast.

Reviews

Picture, picking lemon's from the lemon tree's for an evening G&T or taking part in the olive harvesting late Oct and then sampling Santa Maria's own olive oil. Santa Maria offers wonderful accommodation, a tennis court, lush landscaping and a pool to cool off in. The perfect location for families and friends to come together for an amazing holiday.

George, Haslemere

Our family of five stayed at Villa Maria for a week in August 2025. We had a wonderful time. The villa itself is absolutely stunning and clearly a much loved home. Caroline & Marcello went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed (including a comprehensive guide to the local area). The pool was enormous allowing our various family members to follow their own agendas, almost without fighting. The tennis court was also lovely, our evening games are a fond memory. We also wanted to mention the dining table in the walled citrus grove - wonderfully atmospheric. Thank you!

My husband and I took our son and his family with us for a holiday in this delightful house in early June. It proved to be a great choice for us all. Such a romantic yet practical place to holiday. Efficient air conditioning, comfortable large double bedrooms and stylish interiors with delightful gardens - particularly the lemon and orange grove and swimming pool. The hosts couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful with local knowledge. They also provided us with baby equipment - everything from cots and baby baths to buckets and spades and inflatables. A very happy week

Sarah, Devizes

A stunning Villa with a beautiful garden full of flowering shrubs olive groves and palm trees, located near shops with easy access to archaeological sights and Palermo airport. We had sunny weather with temperatures of 22-24C. Even at end of October, we were able to swim in the pool, although the water was a little chilly when we first got in. The owner provided us with extensive local information which meant we were able to maximise our time well.

Ruth, Wimbledon

We had a wonderful week at Santa Maria. The property and grounds are stunning and were a good base to explore ancient ruins and the smaller islands. Caroline was an exceptional host and provided us with lots of useful information. We would highly recommend a visit.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Caroline Manzo

  • Relax by the 12x 6 swimming pool in the shade of ancient olive trees, surrounded by a lush Mediterranean garden. Enjoy a game of tennis on the private tennis court or stroll down the pine avenue to the 16th century watchtower within the grounds.
  • Explore the beautiful coastline you can reach in just 10 minutes.. Go snorkelling in crystal clear waters at Granitola, hire a boat to go swimming around the beautiful coves and bays of the Egadi Islands or relax on one of the long sandy beaches nearby.
  • Mazara, the town and fishing port is ten minutes away by car. Wander through the historic centre with its baroque squares and magnificent Cathedral or through the Kasbah to the fish market. Buy almond pastries from the cloistered nuns of the San Michele .
  • Don’t miss the Museo del Satiro housing the world-famous Dancing Satyr, a stunningly beautiful bronze staue from the 4th century B.C. discovered by local fishermen. Watch the video telling the extraordinary story of its discovery and restoration.
  • Neighboring Marsala, once the Roman Lilybaeum, famous as the landing point for Garibaldi, is the centre of the local wine industry, founded by the Enlish in the 18th century. Local wineries such as Florio and Pellegrino are open for tours and wine tasting.
  • You are only half an hour’s drive from Selinunte, one of the largest archaeological sites of the Ancient Greek world. Visit the temples, enjoy the views over the sea, then catch a golf buggy to the Punic shrine on the outskirts of the site.
