The Experience

The main entertaining space is open plan and gloriously spacious with smart sofas, a chaise longue and cosy armchairs – just the ticket for those wanting to chat while cooking. You’ll find all you need in the top-notch kitchen with its marble worktops – a large fridge, basics for cooking plus a bottle of wine, fresh bread, eggs, milk and homemade jam. Light pours in from three windows, capturing the glory of the outdoors.

There are stunning views over the Barga valley with the Garfagnana mountains in the far distance. Eat al fresco surrounded by olive trees, listen to birdsong; sunbathe beside the sparkling pool or head off for wonderful walks in the mountains. Bedrooms (one twin up, a double downstairs) are roomy and light with en suite bathrooms. You’ll sleep peacefully.

A 15-minute drive will take you to the medieval village of Barga, clinging to a spur in the mountains and full of twisting streets with an international jazz festival in summer.

Reviews

I'd love to bring my family here for a week. We would lounge on the fine sofas, read books, enjoy the great kitchen and cook food together. We'd go for long walks across the fields, through the woods and up the hills. We'd marvel at the pleasing blend of rural Italy, forests, fields and enjoy the easy convenience of great nearby joys such as Barga and Lucca – which abound in history, music and art.

La Casa Verde, you were wonderful! An easy drive from Pisa and nestled in unspoilt Tuscan countryside, this beautifully decorated, newly renovated property is full of traditional charm and all mod cons. Waking up and taking in the magnificent views each morning was a joy. Our teenage daughters loved having the pool all to themselves, and we loved the spacious surroundings to enjoy carefree antipasto and BBQs. Barga is a charm, and Lucca and Florence a must. Geran is a wonderful, understanding, caring host who's always available to help and advise. Have no concerns about booking this 'tesoro'.

Samantha, Düsseldorf

We had such a wonderful stay at La Casa Verde, we miss it so much! The place has been beautifully renovated with lots of space. We really loved taking in the views & simply taking in the surroundings and enjoying the pool. We also did day trips to Lucca, Pisa, the caves, Bagga and the coffee in the village. It was the most restful and relaxing holiday we’ve had for a while and we really appreciated the authentic side of Italy. Geran was a lovely host too and made us feel so welcome in her home, including arranging a little pasta making experience for our boys who loved it!

Catherine, Cambridge

We loved our stay at Casa Verde and didn’t want to leave! Nestled in the beautifulTuscan mountains it is a little gem. The local area is very unspoilt with lots to see and do. We especially loved wild swimming in nearby Ponti De Campia, the bakery in the village and beautiful Barga! Owner Gerad is very welcoming and friendly and on hand to help with anything throughout your stay.

Jane, Birmingham

We loved staying at La Casa Verde. Spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean, stunning, with uninterrupted panoramic views. The pool was perfect for a cool down swim. We enjoyed days out in Florence, Lucca, Pisa & Barga, for good food. Geran, our host was lovely & helpful. We will be back! Thank you Geran.

Location

The neighbourhood

You overlook fields, treetops and hill ridges dotted with the occasional house – the valley is wide and open, farmed and fertile. Barga has plenty of restaurants and cafés, a castle and the beautiful Cathedral of San Cristoforo. The whole area is grand for walkers with loads of trails, and mountain bikers will be thrilled. There's a good restaurant just a 10-minute drive serving traditional food.

Local points of interest from Boo Blair

  • Living now in Italy for the past 25 years I find it hard to tear myself away from the beauty and warmth of the area. Casa Verde has been lovingly transformed from a tractor barn into an open plan living space whilst keeping the charm of the original stone.
  • Whether it is sitting by the pool or in the living area the views are wonderful with the local town happily only five minutes by car. Barga which is a 20 minute drive is famous for its slow food of which there are 7 restaurants within the medieval walls.
  • Lucca the famous walled city is only 40 minutes by car or why not take the train! Here there is a wealth of places to visit Puccini's house and museum, beautiful shops or take a stroll around the 5 km walls followed by a wonderful lunch.
  • 1 hour from the beach whether your passion is sea or mountains it is all accessible from here. Across the valley is Grotto del Vento some of the deepest caves in Europe offering guided tours with a restaurant on the way set into the monastery grounds.
  • Our aim is to help you enjoy your time with us and if booked in advance we have masseurs, private chefs, walking guides, Day flower arranging courses, art courses, forest bathing days wine tastings, not forgetting a day in Florence is a wonderful option!
