The Experience

Every window of your upstairs lodging in this ancient building frames a bowl-you-over view. It is above an empty stable, old roses climb the walls, a venerable outside stone staircase leads to the apartment and its loggia-terrace overlooking that spectacular landscape. The glorious, twin-pillared sitting room has soft seating for all by the original fireplace and beautiful books. The brand new marble-top kitchen/breakfast room seems to have everything, even an electric kettle, so rare in Italy. All the big, elegant bedrooms are bright with high painted beams, simple furniture and good newly-renovated bathrooms. Charming Olivia, a qualified guide, knows the area backwards and can organise wine-tasting, children’s activities, anything. She also lays on a generous welcome basket, including some of their own olive oil. Francesco farms the vast estate, producing cattle and fodder, wine, olives and fruit. Bathe like Romans in hot spring waters, do some serious food-tasting at local ‘sagras’, (re)visit the wonders of Tuscany and Umbria. Heinz Becks’ Michelin-starred Fighine restaurant is close by, so spoil yourselves.

Reviews

FIAMMA, Siena

Montefreddo is a lovely apartment in an amazing place. My family and I loved every minute there and felt very lucky we casually found such a nice place. We made some memorable day trips to Orvieto, Montepulciano, Siena and many more Tuscan hill top towns. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

Cosima, London

I've spent long afternoons by that pool, gazing into the never ending distant hills. Just the view is worth it, on top of that you have Olivia's amazing organization. She is open and friendly, you can ask anything you want. Everything is in perfect Tuscan style and very comfortable. You couldn't be in safer hands.

Valentina, Florence

Everything was simply perfect! The house is beautiful and very clean. The view breathtaking. Montefreddo is the ideal place to stay in order to visit the South of Tuscany and Umbria and the beautiful city of Montepulciano, Pienza, Cortona, Arezzo, Assisi, Orvieto. Also, the place is easy drive to Rome and Fiumicino airport.

Local points of interest from Olivia Bologna

  • Montefreddo is a newly restored apartment, part of a farming estate that produces olive oil and wine. Set on a hill overlooking the magnificent Tuscan countryside, it is a perfect getaway to spend relaxing holidays and visit some of the most renowned towns.
  • The medieval village of San Casciano dei Bagni is only few miles drive from the property. Set in a marvelous natural contest in the southern part of Tuscany, in the province of Siena, is surrounded by oak woods and the main square has a magical view.
  • Some of the nicest day trips from Montefreddo are:Orvieto known for the beautiful Cathedra, Montepulciano the pearl of the 16th century, Pienza known for the Reinaissance architectures, Montalcino where to taste the Brunello wine.
  • Most of our guests alternate lazy days by the pool and days spent discovering the territory, but there still may be some time to enjoy different experiences and dedicate to activities that will contribute to make your holiday at Montefreddo a unique one.
  • A holiday in Tuscany should, by all means, include the experience of a cooking class. In the familiar ambience of your kitchen or at their restaurant, “our” professional cook Dori, will share with you her secrets. Also ask for a home cooked dinner.
  • San Casciano is know for the warm healing waters of its springs since the Etruscan times. Today you can enjoy the benefits of thermal water at Fonteverde SPA, 10 km from Montefreddo.
