The Experience

Tucked up a small lane, this traditional Portuguese home, half an hour north of Faro, is delightful. Away from the busy south coast you can get a proper taste of Portuguese country living: pop into the nearby market town of São Brás for a pastel de nata, buy fresh produce at the daily food market, visit the museum to learn all about the cork industry.

Return to cook a delicious meal and eat on the plant-filled shady terrace, just off the neat kitchen. Up a level, the rooftop terrace has mesmerising hillside views, watch spectacular sunsets here and sleep on a comfy double bed as the stars begin to bristle. There’s a fenced pool too, down more steps, and the entire garden is peaceful and filled with the sounds of birdlife.

Inside, en suite bedrooms branch off the kitchen and living room, there’s one double and one twin/double. Hang out in the cosy living room, it has a burner for chilly evenings, smart TV and WiFi.

Reviews

The Cottage exceeded our expectations. The space was much bigger than it looks in photos and the surrounding area is just beautiful. Though the cottage joins with the farmhouse, it is really private. The roof is a lovely spot for a sunrise coffee / evening drink under the stars. The weather wasn’t great for some of our trip but the location of the Cottage meant that wasn’t a problem as we could drive to so many different towns and beaches easily. Highly recommended!!

We have just spent a wonderful ten days at the cottage. It was the perfect location to relax and spend quality time as a family. The pool was a good size for our needs and was shaded from mid afternoon, the children loved it. Inside the house was clean and really well equipped. The welcome pack was perfect and much appreciated following a long journey. There was a restaurant and small local shop within a five minute walk and it was around 20 minutes to larger supermarkets. Lots to do within a short drive. The parking is tight but very doable.

Orla, London

I couldn’t have been happier when we arrived, the cottage is everything we hoped for and more! In the most perfect idyllic location. The welcome pack is a lovely little touch and there is everything you would need at the cottage. I didn’t want to leave! We will definitely be back! Thank you.

Kelly, Harlow

What a beautiful place this is! Idyllic and romantic are words that describe this place well. Located in complete tranquility.

Peter, Woerden

Beautiful house, wonderful surroundings. Amazing gardens. Fabulous pool. Clean and with everything we needed. Fresh towels provided half way through our stay. We had a wonderful time staying here. Carina was very helpful giving us the number of Carlos, a local taxi driver, who was great and took us wherever we needed to go. Thank you so much for letting us stay at your wonderful cottage. Hopefully we'll be back one day.

Jenn, Bath

We had a great time at The Cottage - beautiful roof terrace and pool. Very generous welcome pack and extra bits provided for our daughter for the pool. Loads to do locally. Brian and his team were always helpful, kind and quick to respond. Other reviews mentioning the need for a smaller car are correct - parking is tight at The Cottage but nothing to worry about. If necessary, you can park next to the adjoining Farmhouse.

Hannah, Fareham

Great Cottage! Peaceful location with fantastic views over the Algarve countryside. Would definitely recommend.

Daniel, Birmingham

The property is delightful, everything you would need for a lovely holiday. The views from the terrace are amazing and therefore make this space very special indeed. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here myself. You can enjoy the peaceful countryside with plenty of wonderful walks locally, wonderful restaurants nearby or 20 minutes away the sea beckons with Algarve's stunning beaches.

Georgie, Sawday's Inspector

We had a wonderful stay and can highly recommend this property. Brian was brilliant and very responsive, sending us tips on places to go as well. The welcome pack at the cottage was the most generous we’ve ever had. Thank you! The cottage was lovely, the pool beautiful in a private area (gated), and the many seating areas capturing the sun throughout the day were perfect. A mention for the rooftop terrace (also gated access): a perfect place to watch the hills and valley dim from early evening sun to starry sky. A wonderful stay. We can't wait to return.

Tanya, London

A fantastic property, we immensely enjoyed our stay and appreciated the extremely thoughtful and generous welcome pack provided. If anything, the property exceeded our expectations, the tree shaded private pool area being a particular highlight. We look forward to a return visit.

Fiona, Cork

Lovely cottage with everything you could possibly need. Towels for inside and out, clean towels dropped off and a beautiful roof terrace to enjoy a coffee or beer in the evenings. Really appreciated the welcome pack, more than generous and lots of suggestions for beaches and food etc. We hired a 5 seater Citroën and reversed into the parking space without a problem. We loved the location, felt rural and private but not remote, easy access to everywhere. Thank you for a great stay.

Joanna, London

We had a fantastic stay at the cottage, everything was as described and better. The cottage is charming and well equipped and a welcome package containing essentials and treats was much appreciated. The pool was a real highlight, a good size for the 4 of us and set in a well landscaped area. The outside area was well laid out and much bigger than we were expecting. It was around 30 - 40 minutes to get to Vilamoura, Albufeira, Tivara and the water parks. You definitely need a compact car as the road The Cottage is on is very narrow and winding ...

Vanessa, London

A fantastic villa ideal for us as a family of four. Perfect retreat away from busy touristy parts of the Algarve. Perfect spot for exploring eastern Algarve and experiencing a sense of a real Portugal with lovely Sao Bras and Loule near by. Food fantastic and steaks at the near by restaurant were great. Friendly people too. Loved every minute. Small car essential, although you can park in the parking area of the Farmhouse next door. Highly recommend.

Karin, Glasgow

The house was perfect for us (family of 4, children 9 and 11). We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and the nice pool. The nice welcome package was only the cherry on the top! We would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend the house for a comfortable stay!

Olga, Rheinfelden, Switzerland

The perfect place to stay for a quiet and relaxing trip to the Algarve. The location is beautiful, house has everything you need and the communication was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend.

Location

The neighbourhood

It's a short walk to a good steak restaurant, otherwise hop in the car to São Brás for cafés, bars and restaurants, and an excellent market (open daily except Sunday) selling fresh produce and cork products. The town is famed for its cork production, take a tour from the museum. Colourful Loulé (15 mins) has a Saturday market for seafood, cheeses, charcuterie, honey, local gin, wine and much more.

Local points of interest from Kate Ferguson

  • Have a sundowner on our roof terrace or even sleep under the stars. The views are breathtaking.
  • Visit Loule with its daily covered market - perfect for fresh fish, seafood and local produce. Loule comes alive on Saturdays when the farmers bring their produce to sell.
  • Your nearest beach is Fusetta - take a boat the islands to enjoy a Robinson Crusoe experience. There are numerous sandy beaches on your doorstep.
  • Porches Pottery is an absolute must - see the workers hand painting their pottery. Have a look at the "seconds" for bargains!
  • There is a lovely restaurant bar and restaurant just a 10 minute walk from The Cottage
  • You can even drive to the Spanish border and cross over in the little ferry from Vila Real de Santo Antonio to Ayamonte. Enjoy an authentic paella and then back to Portugal for a Pasteis de Nata!
