The Experience

A drive through almond and olive groves (the last stretch on a well-kept dirt track) brings you to this secluded spot with incredible views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. White-washed walls, shuttered windows and rattan-shaded terraces are quintessential Andalusia.

It’s small and bijou – just six rooms, all with huge beds and lovely French linens plus smart en suite bathrooms with generous walk-in rain showers – and everything’s impeccable, thanks to the exacting standards of owners Annemarie and Gerard.

He prepares breakfast and dinner, which are local, seasonal and served in the dining area or on the terrace (takeaway lunches can be ordered in advance). There’s a large pool with comfortable, shaded sunbeds, a small gym, a yoga space for your daily asanas, and a couple of mountain e-bikes for hire. Annemarie (who’s trained in wellness therapies) offers some rather lovely spa treatments, too.

Reviews

I felt like I'd arrived at an oasis in the desert. The bright white of the hotel contrasted against the deep blue of the sky was all-enveloping. You have the space here to stretch, breath, recalibrate and drink in the natural beauty of the area. The owners have made it their "raison d'être" to ensure you are looked after and have everything you need to make your stay simply unforgettable.

Location

The neighbourhood

The nearest town is Moraleda de Zafayona (15-min drive) – eat at Mar y Brasas (excellent meat and seafood). Take easy day trips to Granada (30 mins) for the Alhambra palace, Montefrio (20 mins) and Malaga (one hour). The Caminito del Rey (50 mins), a restored aerial walkway through the Gaitanes Gorge, is well worth the trip. Try snorkelling and canoeing at La Herradura (one hour).

Local points of interest from Annemarie & Gerard

  • Explore the city of Granada and visit the Alhambra palace.
  • There are hiking routes in the area surrounding the hotel, or you can take part in an e-mountain bike tour. We also recommend hiking in the Los Cahorros gorge.
  • Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is possible from the end of December until the end of April.

Introducing

Annemarie & Gerard

Originally from the Netherlands, Annemarie and Gerard bought the retreat in 2022 after years running a tour business in Shanghai. Now living nearby with their three children, they strike the perfect balance of warm welcome and thoughtful privacy. Her healing touch and his culinary flair, paired with their shared eye for design, are a winning combination.
