The Experience
Malaga Hills sits high up in the mountains east of Malaga, in one of Europe’s sunniest corners. Bedrooms are spacious and most have their own terraces with wonderful views – generous breakfasts are best enjoyed outside in the morning sunshine. Hikers will be happy with trails starting almost from the door – set off on the spectacular route through the white villages of the Axarquia, with the Caminito de la Axarquia being hailed as one of the most beautiful walks in Spain by the Spanish Hiking Federation.
Swim in the large heated pool, chill in the infrared sauna, book a massage or treatment, browse the 3,000 volume library or keep fit in the gym. There are glorious views from the terrace out towards hills dotted with white-washed villas, the La Maroma mountain peak, and down to the coast.
The hotel is Green Key certified and guests enjoy it hugely. It’s a tranquil base for hiking, winter sunshine, wellness and a little pampering.

Vréneli, Ruud, Estrella and Estela could not have been better hosts. Málaga Hills is a fabulous space to relax in mountains of Andalusia, an hour or so drive from Málaga airport. We hired a car from the airport and were glad to have chosen slightly more powerful automatic. It’s tough to beat a delightful breakfast, freshly prepared and beautifully presented either looking towards La Maroma (the highest peak of the Sierra de Tejeda) or, from the other side of the table, down the valley to the Mediterranean Sea. Very clean B&B with knowledgeable staff. Already recommended to friends.

My wife and I stayed there from the 23rd to 26th June 2025. From first to last we had a wonderful stay. The attention, friendliness and helpfulness of the owners and staff was wonderful. The facilities and peace and quiet were of a very high standard. I will definitely stay there again if I am in the region.

A real gem! Such a relaxing place that simply oozes style and charm. Ruud, Vreneli and Estrella are the perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them (advice on places to go, booking dinners and anything else to enhance your stay). Spacious, well designed and equipped bedrooms and fantastic views from the terraces. A pool, sauna and gym for active guests and a robotic massage chair for less energetic visitors (or the hotel will arrange massage treatments). Superb breakfasts, an honesty bar and the still authentically Spanish village of Cómpeta nearby. We loved it and will return soon!

Location
The neighbourhood
The hotel is situated on a quiet, residential no-through road. It’s peaceful, with the gentle sounds of birds, crickets, and a distant barking dog. A ten-minute walk takes you to various dining options and small shops. There are several restaurants in the Roman square with inviting terraces where you can dine outside even during mild winters. The village is bordered by a nature reserve, the Tejeda and Almijara Natural Park. There are numerous short trails and longer ones that meander by the river, along the coast, or high up in the mountains. The owners can give you lots of tips on good walks and you're just two hours from ski-ing on the Sierra Nevada slopes..
Local points of interest from Vréneli & Ruud
- SUNNY WINTERSIt’s a wonderful climate. Even in winter, it feels like spring. In the sunny winter months, we welcome many English hiking enthusiasts who come to enjoy the mild weather and beautiful landscapes., our heated Pool .And all restaurants ARE OPEN!
- BEACHES In just half an hour, you can reach some of the most beautiful hidden beaches — far away from the mass tourism of the Costa del Sol. Tranquil, unspoiled, and perfect for a peaceful day by the sea.
- HAVING DIFFICULTY WALKING?We are in the heart of the mountains, where the terrain is naturally uneven and not flat. If you have difficulty walking, our location may therefore not be ideal for you. That said, all areas can be reached by car.
- ART. The village hosts regular art walks, inviting you to explore its workshops and art galleries. Nestled at the mountain's base (14 kilometers away, a 30-minute drive) is a stunning golf course complemented by various beaches.
- CULTURE. Within a two-hour drive, you can explore some of Spain's most beautiful cities, including Malaga, Seville, Cordoba, and Granada (home to the Alhambra).
- RELAX , unwind, and rejuvenate at Málaga Hills. Enjoy soothing massages, energizing facials, or holistic body treatments — all designed to restore balance and inner peace. Our serene setting and skilled therapists offer a truly luxurious wellness experienc

Introducing
Vréneli & Ruud
Friendly Ruud and Vréneli (both Dutch) live on-site in a private apartment. Ruud brings entrepreneurial expertise in marketing and IT while Vréneli specialises in training and coaching highly educated women and is a feminist and published writer. They are both committed to sustainability.
I can highly recommend this beautiful boutique stay, if you are looking for total relaxation and are passionate about Spanish culture. Malaga Hills is a special place, with the most breathtaking views of the majestic mountains. I utilised the massage chair, “Isabel”, many times!! If you seek authenticity at its best and prepared to embrace the wonder of these hills, then the reward is a unique and very special experience. Thank you to all the very helpful and kind team, that I now feel are special friends. Sarah
