The Experience
The position is perfect: from the garden the views of the mountains (Sierra Tramuntana) are gorgeous, especially at sunset. The town is a six-minute walk downhill for a good bakery, wet fish shop and the Sóller Cooperative – one of the oldest in Spain and with excellent supplies. The main square is a bit touristy but if you walk down the side streets you’ll find lovely bars and tapas places that are quieter and more authentic.
There’s plenty of space indoors with two living rooms, one with a wood-burning stove and both with big windows overlooking the garden so even in bad weather you’ll feel part of the lush outdoors; mostly you’ll be based on the terrace with its fabulous views or lazing around the saltwater pool which is big enough for proper swimming.
The kitchen opens onto the terrace and you also get a handy extra fridge. Lovely to stock up with local food and eat watching the sun sink below the rocky horizon. It’s peaceful here.

Cas Panares will not disappoint, the salt water pool and gardens are beautiful, the house is cool in the heat and very well equipped. Its a short walk into Soller with lots of bars and restaurants, we didn’t hire a car and really didn’t one as we were drawn back to the house to relax by the pool most days .

This is a special place, it feels like staying in the lovingly restored home of a friend. We could happily have spent all week pottering in the well-stocked kitchen and reading by the pool under a lemon tree with stunning mountain views. The house feels rural, but is just 10 minutes’ walk to the famous little town of Soller and the tram that goes down to the beautiful port with beaches and sea front restaurants. We had a deeply relaxing time and would love to return.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're not remote, there are neighbours but not bang next door. However the feel is green and rural and the views make you feel a long way from town. In Sóller itself apart from shops and restaurants the Museum of Modernism is worth a visit and also the church of St Bartolomew. You can take the train to Palma for the day, or trek the sierra, cycle off piste or visit lovely rocky beaches.
Local points of interest from David & Geraldine Hare
- Soller and the Tramuntana Valley are worth visiting throughout the year: for walking, hiking and relaxing in the spring and autumn, and for a character-filled sunshine holiday in the summer, and the house is comfortable all year round.
- Soller is filled with interesting architecture, from the exuberant Gaudi-inspired church and bank in the square to the fin de siecle mansions of the Soller orange and cloth merchants, and the fincas on the outskirts of the town.
- From the house, walk up the hill past the cemetery to the Three Crosses monument from where you will get amazing views of the entire town, the valley, the mountains which encircle it, the port, the lighthouse and the Mediterranean beyond.
- As always, the most interesting places, shops, bars and cafés are just off the beaten track, close to but not in the main square and the main shopping street, the Calle de la Luna. These are worth visiting, but you will be rewarded by going further.
- The train to Palma is a busy tourist attraction, but it's a good way to see the Soller Valley and the mountain scenery. Soller station has a permanent exhibition of Miro and Picasso ceramics, with free entry, and the station itself is impressive.
- The best time to swim in the Port is before 10 am - the parking is free until then, and the beach is empty. Put Restaurant Es Canyis into Google Maps and park in the car park beside the restaurant, the beach is 100 yards from here.

Introducing
David & Geraldine Hare
David and Geraldine have special Sawday’s places in Ireland and Mallorca. Both houses are full of character and warmth with pictures on the walls, books to read and well-equipped kitchens. David’s grandfather built Derryclare as a holiday home in the 1950s so he has clambered, swum or strolled most of the local coastline
Just to say we had the most wonderful time at Can Panares. We have all fallen in love with Soller, and your house in particular. We went on a couple of walks to Fornalux but mostly divided our time between the beach in the morning (brilliant recommendation to get to Repic beach before 10am), and the pool in the afternoon. We ate out a lot in the first week when it was just me and my boys but your home is so well equipped, it was just as much fun staying in when I had my mother and sister to stay in the second week. In particular, we made full use of the BBQ, Scrabble & backgammon.
