The Experience
A modern house that feels rooted in this sleepy hamlet; handmade tiles and lime plaster walls, stone and wood make open plan spaces inviting. The muted tones give way to a carpet of green – the lush garden is filled with trailing jasmine, almond trees and a magnificent cork oak over the plunge pool. A wisteria-clad pergola is just the ticket for long evenings of conversation over good food and wine.
There’s local olive oil and wine, fresh bread and traditional Catalan ‘fuet’ sausage in the well-equipped kitchen, with plenty of room round the island for communal cooking. Bedrooms are elegant and simple, two with en suite bathrooms and those on the ground floor open straight onto the garden. Steal away to the reading nook for a bit of peace.
Walk or bike from the door through unspoilt countryside. Stroll along the medieval cobbles of nearby Pais and Pertallada and shop for pottery and antiques in La Bisbal. The Costa Brava, with it’s pretty fishing villages, is yours to wander.
